Los Monstruos del Terror (English: The Monsters of Terror), also known as Dracula vs. Frankenstein, Reincarnator and Assignment Terror, is a 1970 Spanish-German-Italian horror film directed by Tulio Demicheli, Hugo Fregonese and Eberhard Meichsner. The last two were uncredited in the film's original print. It is the third in a series of movies featuring the werewolf Waldemar Daninsky, played by Paul Naschy. It was originally slated to be called The Man Who Came From Ummo, referring to the Michael Rennie character.
An English language one-sheet exists for this film, bearing the title Assignment Terror, so AIP may have theatrically disttributed the film in the U.S. It was shown on American late-night TV in the 70's as Assignment Terror, and was later released on VHS as Dracula vs Frankenstein (not to be confused with the infamous Al Adamson film of the same name). Although most TV prints of this film are faded "pan and scan" messes, there is a DVD release from Luminous Film and Video Wurks that preserves the letterboxed image, has nice color and is apparently uncut (although a bit splicy). Reportedly many of the Luminous DVD-Rs self-destructed after several years due to the thick labels glued onto them, and it's difficult to find one that still works.
Synopsis
Aliens, running a traveling circus as a cover, revive a vampire, a werewolf, a mummy and Frankenstein's monster with a plan to use them to take over the world. They want to discover the reason that these monsters are so frightening to Earthlings. They then plan to create an army of such monsters using their findings.Actors

In the near future (2018), a prisoner named Dante (William Miller) escapes from jail after having been arrested for illegally entering Spain. Forced to kill a prison guard, he is hunted down by the prison's dog, a monstrous Rottweiler police dog that sadistic prison warden Kufard (Paul Naschy) had revived and cybernetically enhanced after a fatal injury. Believing his Spanish girlfriend Ula (Irene Montala) was sent to work as a prostitute in Puerto Angel as punishment, Dante looks for her, but is exhausted by the chase and wounded by the Rottweiller. As a result, he starts having hallucinations and being haunted by the repressed memories of his and Ula's arrest. As he reaches Puerto Angel and can't find her at the brothel, he finally remembers that Ula got killed when Kufard let his dog loose on her, which led Dante to shoot the dog, which was then turned into a cyborg. Dante kills Kufard as the Rottweiler catches up with him, and they fight to the death among the burning remains of Kufard's helicopter. The morning after, firemen find the skeletons of Dante, Ula and the Rottweiler on the beach.

Following the events in Fury of the Wolfman, the deceased lycanthrope Waldemar Daninsky is revived to life when two doctors surgically remove two silver bullets from his heart while performing an autopsy on him. Waldemar transforms into a werewolf, kills the doctors and escapes from the morgue. Some time later, two students, Elvira and her friend Genevieve, go searching for the tomb of medieval murderess (and possible vampiress) Countess Wandessa de Nadasdy. They find a possible gravesite in the vicinity of Waldemar Daninsky's castle, and he invites the girls to stay for a few days.

When the wealthy count Waldemar Daninsky kills a wolf on his grounds, it transforms into a gypsy upon death, and he finds himself cursed by a vengeful gypsy witch who is angry about him killing one of her band. The witch orders a young, beautiful gypsy girl to seduce Daninsky and then, while he is sleeping, bite him with the skull of a wolf which she smuggles into the count's mansion. When she presses the skull's fangs into his skin, Waldemar becomes a werewolf (without a doubt the most original of all of Waldemar's various "origins" in the series).

A drunken Gypsy couple spending the night in the abandoned Wolfstein castle accidentally resurrect the werewolf Imre Wolfstein when they remove the silver cross from his corpse. Once alive, he not only kills the Gypsy couple, but also wreaks havoc on a nearby village. The villagers attribute the attack to ordinary wolves, and in response, form a hunting party to kill off the animals. While on the hunt, Count Waldemar Daninsky is attacked by Imre Wolfstein and is afflicted with lycanthropy. After killing innocent victims in the midst of his transformation, he seeks help from specialists, Dr. Janos de Mikhelov and his wife, who turn out to be two vampires, who then prey on both Janice and Rudolph, Waldemar's friends. The vampires revive the first werewolf, Imre, from the dead, and force the two werewolves to battle each other. Waldemar kills Imre Wolfstein with his fangs and then destroys the two vampires, only to be killed in turn by a bullet fired by Janice, the woman who loved him most.

Waldemar Daninsky goes to Tibet to look for proof that the yeti exists. He gets captured by two savage vampire women in a cave who turn him into a werewolf by biting him. Waldemar's friends are then kidnapped by a band of Tibetan pirates who torture their victims gruesomely, and in the grand climax of the film, Waldemar (in werewolf form) gets to fight a genuine Yeti in bloody hand-to-fang combat.

Waldemar Daninsky is sentenced to be executed along with Elizabeth Bathory and a number of witches. Since it is nearly impossible to truly kill him, he is left in a kind of living death, with a silver dagger through his heart and an iron mask to keep him from biting. Centuries later, the dagger is removed and Daninsky returns to activity, fighting against a revived Elizabeth Bathory and her demonic manservant.

Baron Boris von Frankenstein (voiced by Boris Karloff) achieves his ultimate ambition, the secret of total destruction. Count Dracula (John Carradine) greets the castle's owner, Dr. Franz Edelmann (Onslow Stevens). The Count, who introduces himself as "Baron Latos", explains that he has come to Visaria to find a cure for his vampirism. Dr. Edelmann agrees to help. Together with his assistants, Milizia (Martha O'Driscoll) and the hunchbacked Nina (Poni Adams), he has been working on a mysterious plant, the clavaria formosa, whose juices have the ability to reshape bone. Edelmann explains that he thinks vampirism can be cured by a series of blood transfusions. Dracula agrees to this, and Edelmann uses his own blood for the transfusions.

Anna Quarrels (Rhonda Griffin), librarian in the Rare Books Room, is approached by Mr. Jamison from the University of Chicago who wishes to study Mary Shelley's original manuscript for "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus". After he's finished, Anna is about to return the manuscript to the stacks when she discovers that Jamison has switched blank paper for the manuscript and walked out of the library with it. Investigating, she learns he used a fake I.D. to access the Rare Books Room and so hires Private Detective, David Raleigh (Justin Lauer) to track him down. David finds fingerprints on the sign-in sheet and discovers the man claiming to be Jamison is really Dr. Winston Berber, an unscrupulous scholar with doctorates in Physics, Mathematics, Folklore, and Philosophy. Berber (Bill Moynihan) is meanwhile gloating over his collection of rare manuscripts; along with the Shelley manuscript, he has obtained the originals of Guy Endore's "The Werewolf of Paris" (1933) and James Putnam's "Mummy" (1993). He now seeks the first edition of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" (1897) to complete his collection. Berber has invented an "Archetype Inducer" and plans to use the manuscripts to bring the four greatest monsters from horror history to life to do his bidding.
