Victor Vauthier, un voyou sympathique et ne se laissant pas désarçonner par les imprudences auxquelles le conduit sa mythomanie, sort de prison, à la grande tristesse de ses gardiens, qui s'étaient attachés à lui, durant les trois mois de son incarcération. Il recommence immédiatement la série de ses vols et escroqueries. Cependant, il doit composer avec Marie-Charlotte Pontalec, déléguée permanente d'assistance post-pénale nommée par le juge d'application des peines. Victor et Marie-Charlotte ne tardent pas à éprouver une attirance réciproque, ce qui n'empêche pas Victor de chercher, à l'instigation de son oncle Camille, son père spirituel, à profiter de sa proximité avec Marie-Charlotte pour dérober un triptyque signé du Greco, après l'avoir vu au musée de Senlis, dont le père de Marie-Charlotte est conservateur. Mais la jeune femme finira par découvrir la vérité et le plus filou ne sera pas forcément celui auquel on pense de prime abord.

Entre Nous tells the story of two young married women in the 1950s who don't recognise how unfulfilled they have been in their marriages until they meet each other. In the preliminary scenes, set in 1942, Lena (Isabelle Huppert), a pretty 18-year-old, has been arrested and brought to an internment camp for Jews in the Pyrenees. The camp is guarded by members of the French Foreign Legion, and one of them, Michel (Guy Marchand), writes her a note warning her she may be deported to a German Nazi camp, and offers her marriage as a means of escape. She accepts. During the marriage ceremony she discovers that he too is Jewish; she's dismayed to learn that she won't have the protection of a gentile name.

In 1793, during the French Revolution, a young woman named Céline (Sophie Marceau), who was adopted by Count Savinien de Kerfadec, must choose between two men who have been raised like her brothers, Tarquin Larmor (Lambert Wilson) and Aurèle de Kerfadec (Stéphane Freiss), while they take opposite sides in the conflict. Tarquin, also adopted by the Count, is a partisan of the New Republic and defends the new political system; Aurèle, the Count's natural son, supports the Royalist side. Madame Emery and her beautiful 17-year-old daughter Geneviève (Deneuve) sell umbrellas at their tiny (and financially struggling) boutique in the coastal town of Cherbourg in Normandy, France, in the late 1950s. Guy (Castelnuovo), is a handsome young auto mechanic who lives with, and cares for, his sickly aunt, godmother Elise. Guy and Geneviève are deeply in love; they want to get married, and they want to name their first child "Francoise". Madeleine (Ellen Farner) is the quiet, shy, dedicated young caregiver who looks after Guy's aunt; Madeleine also has feelings for Guy, but has not expressed this. Suddenly Guy is drafted and must leave to become a soldier in the Algerian War. The night before Guy leaves, he and Geneviève pledge their undying love. Then they make love (apparently for the first time) and the very next day, Guy leaves.

Roland, la trentaine, est un gardien et homme à tout faire dans un camping, sur les bords de la Mer du Nord. Un jour, une jeune femme du nom de Delphine arrive au camp et Roland en tombe tout de suite amoureux. À la suite d'une dispute avec son copain dont elle tient une baraque à frites non loin de là, Delphine est soutenue par Roland, dont elle tombe amoureuse à son tour. Le coup de foudre devient réciproque, ils décident de vivre ensemble. Sur les conseils de leur ami Jeff, un représentant en Bibles reconverti dans la vente de maisons en kit, ils en achètent une à crédit pour y vivre. Mais Delphine tombe enceinte et, le camping ayant fermé pour l'hiver, Roland est obligé de s'embaucher comme vigile de nuit dans un entrepôt. Le temps et les compétences leur manquent et ils n'arrivent pas à finir la construction de leur maison. Petit à petit, leur vie devient un cauchemar quand ils acceptent d'y héberger leurs amis pour les aider dans leurs travaux... Mais Jeff va finir par trouver une solution qui sauvera tout le monde.

Lola takes place in the Atlantic coastal city of Nantes, France.
