Synopsis
Violoncelliste mondialement connu, Jascha est un personnage hors norme. Il va, solitaire, de récital en concert. La gloire l'a altéré, il ne possède plus la même flamme qu'autrefois et il le sait. Au cours d'une tournée, il donne un concert à Evian. Ses parents et son oncle profitent de cette occasion pour venir passer quelques heures avec lui. Autres retrouvailles, celle des parents avec Lulu Kreutz, amie de toujours qui vit à Evian; celle de Jascha avec Anna et son mari. Le pique-nique en montagne, propose par Lulu, va réunir ces êtres qui s'aiment mais que le temps sépare.Actors

Simon Eskanazy is a thirty-year-old gay musician. Born into a Jewish family, he took great pains to accept his homosexuality, and to get his family (including his mother and his uncle, Salomon) to do the same. The latter, Uncle Salomon is a wealthy banker who offered him a deal: he'll give him 10 million francs and will bequeath his mansion to Simon only if Simon agrees to marry a woman. The film is centred on the life of Kate Swallow and her susceptibility for falling in love with different men. At the beginning of the film she is in love with a famous writer named Alec Bolton, who dismisses any intentions she has of writing a novel herself as nonsense, strongly discouraging her. Later falls in love with a man named Vanni Corso who is the publisher of the firm for which Alec writes books, and she leaves Alec for Vanni. Kate later finds out that Vanni also doesn't think highly of her writing abilities yet he had strung her along. Gradually both men change their attitudes as they vainly struggle to win her affections.

Set in the year 1950, Pablo Neruda, the famous Chilean poet, is exiled to a small island in Italy for political reasons. His wife accompanies him. On the island, local Mario Ruoppolo is dissatisfied with being a fisherman like his father. Mario looks for other work and is hired as a temporary postman with Neruda as his only customer. He uses his bicycle to hand deliver Neruda's mail (the island has no cars). Though poorly educated, the postman eventually befriends Neruda and becomes further influenced by Neruda's political views and poetry.
