Add to a movie listLying is a 2006 American independent experimental film starring Chloë Sevigny and Jena Malone, Leelee Sobieski, as well as Henry Gummer. It was directed by video artist M. Blash. It premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight and had a limited US release in 2008, with a DVD release following in May 2009. The film was given a small theatrical re-release in September 2009.
While the film follows a fairly loose, ambiguous narrative, it focuses on a group of acquaintances who spend the weekend together at a remote country house; the situation becomes complex throughout the days, though, as one of the women turns out to be a pathological liar.

Set in the 1970s in the rural South, the film follows the lives of protagonist Francis Doyle (Emile Hirsch), and three of his friends, Tim Sullivan (Kieran Culkin), Wade Scalisi (Jake Richardson), and Joey Anderson (Tyler Long). The film follows Tommy Basilio (Buscemi), an alcoholic and fixture at the local bar, Trees Lounge, who begins to float after losing his girlfriend of eight years Theresa (Elizabeth Bracco) and his job as a mechanic. His Uncle Al (Seymour Cassel) dies at the wheel of his ice-cream truck while out on his rounds and at the wake following his funeral he indulges in lines of cocaine with his brother and cousins. Tommy takes them to the Trees Lounge to carry on drinking, where a drunken brawl breaks out between his cousin and one of the regulars, Mike (Mark Boone Junior). In the next scene Mike and Tommy are driving away from a late night convenience store after buying more beer. They are discussing how Tommy stole money from Rob (Anthony LaPaglia), the owner of the garage where he lost his job. They discuss how Rob is seeing Tommy's ex-girlfriend who is pregnant and Tommy might be the father but she is telling Rob otherwise.

The film begins in 2010, with a 65-year-old Howard Marks going onto a stage in front of a packed theatre to great applause. Marks asks if there are any plain-clothes policemen sat in the audience, to which the reply is negative. On a stormy night in March 1980, a distraught Jean Harris arrives at the baronial Purchase, New York home of Herman Tarnower following a five-hour drive from McLean, Virginia.
