Ma vie en rose (English translation: My Life in Pink) is a 1997 Belgian drama film directed by Alain Berliner. It tells the story of Ludovic, a child who is seen by family and community as a boy, but consistently communicates being a girl. The film depicts Ludovic's family struggling to accept this transgressive gender expression. The film was selected as the Belgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 70th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Synopsis
When the Fabre family move into their dream house with wonderful neighbors, everything seems perfect except for one thing - the youngest child Ludovic wishes to function as a girl; while she was assigned 'male' at birth, she feels that she is a girl and wants to live as a female. The rest of the family humor her as best they can, rationalizing that Ludovic is only trying to find "his" identity and will be over it soon.Actors

Laurent Monier est professeur agrégé d'histoire au lycée Fénelon d'Annecy. Le jour de ses 40 ans, il rentre dans son appartement plongé dans le noir ; il ignore que sa femme, ses enfants, sa belle-mère et ses amis sont en réalité dissimulés dans l'obscurité, n'attendant que le bon moment pour lui faire une surprise. Mais avant que son épouse n'ait pu rallumer la lumière, Monier décroche le téléphone et se croyant seul, bavarde avec l'appelant que l'on devine être sa maîtresse. Hélène, sa femme, rallume alors la lumière et s'enfuit dans sa chambre, alors même que leur jeune fils enclenche innocemment une cassette audio diffusant une chanson de joyeux anniversaire. Monier découvre le désastre sous l'œil narquois de son inénarrable belle-mère et de ses amis, qui ne savent plus où se mettre. Le couple divorce. Mickael (Johan Libereau) is from a poor working class family - his father Gérard (Jean-Philippe Ecoffey) is a taxi cab driver who lost his license and then his job as a result of a police roadblock targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol. His mother Annie (Florence Thomassin) works as a cleaning woman in the high school gym: After this they have a tough time financially. Not a great student, Mickael excels in judo and his life is focused on his sport and on his girlfriend Vanessa (Salomé Stévenin). One of Mickael's teammates Clément (Pierre Perrier) is from a wealthy family: his father Louis Steiner (Aurelien Recoing) uses a wheelchair and his mother Mathilde (Claire Nebout) is a woman of the world and society. Louis decides to sponsor the judo team, buys them outfits, and asks Mickael to work with Clement to perfect his technique and prepare the judo team for a French championship.

Pierre, an idealistic twenty-year-old man, leaves his home in a remote district of the Pyrenees to travel to Paris, hoping to break away from his restrictive provincial life. François Pignon, an unassuming divorced man with a teenage son who ignores him, lives a quiet and unremarkable life. When he learns he will be fired from his job as an accountant in a rubber factory, he contemplates suicide, but his new neighbor Jean-Pierre Belone, a former industrial psychologist, dissuades him from jumping from his balcony and suggests a way to keep his position. The story takes place in and around Paris, France in 1931. The story told is one of a love triangle between the Millers and Anaïs Nin.
