It is a thriller about a young woman, Sunita (played by Asha Parekh), who ends up married to the "wrong" man, Rajan. Thinking that he has conspired with his girlfriend Monica (played by Helen) to murder her, she runs away to find her father's old friend in Bangalore who may be able to help. Having no money, the only way she can get there is to join a traveling group of gypsies. There she meets Mohan (played by Jeetendra) and is attracted to him. But Nisha (played by Aruna Irani), who loves Mohan, can go to the extent of killing anyone who gets in her way.

Orphaned at a very young age, Varsha Oberoi, lives a wealthy lifestyle with her paternal uncle, Jain Oberoi, in Bombay, and has traveled world-wide. She is in love with Vijay, a middle-classed young man, who runs a small furniture store, badly in debt, and lives with his widowed mom, a younger brother, Deepu, and sister, Nanhi, who are very friendly with Varsha. Angrily he confronts Vikram, who counsels him that Varsha had never really loved him.

Anand (Rajesh Khanna) is a successful businessman with a dark side. He preys on nubile girls and rapes and kills them. These proceedings are video-recorded and watched by his adoptive father and mentor, another deranged woman-hater who, as with Anand, had a disillusioning experience with the female sex in his past. The old man stays holed up in a far corner of Aanand's mansion watching his son carry out what he is too infirm to do. The murdered girls are buried in Anand's garden and a rosebush is grown above.

Pinky Saxena, a mere child, has been traumatized by the brutal killing of her mom, Sharda, and dad, Inspector Ravi Saxena, at the hands of Jhakha and Shakha, so much that she is hysterical and has to be institutalized. Raja is able to get away by identifying himself as his brother, with a false identification.
