The film stars Sunny Leone in a dual role alongside Tushar Kapoor and Vir Das in lead roles with Shaad Randhawa, Suresh Menon and Vivek Vaswani in supporting roles while Ritesh Deshmukh will appear in a cameo. The film's shoot began from 7 September 2014 and was wrapped up by 20 December 2014. The film was slated to release on 1 May 2015 and it was held back by the Censor Board owing to its sexual content. On 13 August 2015, Central Board of Film Certification finally granted the censor certificate to Mastizaade. Sunny Leone is playing double role in the film. The film is scheduled to release on 4 December 2015.
Music of the film has been composed by Anand Raj Anand, Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Mallik. T-Series, which bought the rights of the music, was reportedly to "provide creative inputs" as well.

After a roller coaster ride of mistaken identities & comedy of errors, the film reaches its crescendo when the police are on the verge of arresting Rahul as the rapist and Karan is about to wed Kiran at the temple, not knowing that she is a transvestite.

The movie starts with Aisha Verma (Shraddha Kapoor) calling her husband and leaving a message for him. A mysterious man in a hood breaks into her house, murders her with a screwdriver, and throws her out of the window. At her funeral, CBI officer, Aditya Rathore (Shaad Randhawa), points out to the police, that it is vital to track down the murderer or else Guru Purohit (Sidharth Malhotra), Aisha's husband, would go on a killing spree. He misguides Guru by blaming Guru's former boss, a gangster Caeser (Remo Fernandes), for killing Aisha. In a flashback, he reveals that Guru used to work as a hitman for Caeser. Two years back, Guru had mercilessly killed a young man in a fit of anger, in front of his mother and younger brother. She tells Guru that one day God will make him pay for all his crimes.

Karan (Fardeen Khan) and Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor) are close friends living in Cape Town, South Africa.
