It involves the theme of a widowed mother (actress Gila Almagor), her lover (actor Dahn Ben Amotz) and ex-husband friend (actor Yehoram Gaon). It was entered into the 1969 Cannes Film Festival. The film was also selected as the Israeli entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 42nd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

In July 1976, Air France flight 139 from Tel Aviv to Paris via Athens was hijacked by four terrorists, two of whom are West Germans named Wilfried Boese (Klaus Kinski) and Halima (Sybil Danning), and the other two are Palestinians. After landing to refuel in Libya, the four hijackers force the plane to take off and to land thousands of miles away at the airport in Entebbe, Uganda, at the invitation of the Ugandan leader Idi Amin (Mark Heath). The two Germans and two Arab hijackers are joined at the Entebbe Airport by at least three more Palestinian terrorists. The Jewish passengers are separated and held hostage in demand to release many terrorists held in Israeli prisons. After much debate, the Israeli government sent an elite commando unit, under the command of Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu (Yehoram Gaon), to raid the airfield and release the hostages. The film is based on fact and follows the events following the flight's takeoff until the hostages' return to Israel.

The film is not based on actual fact, and centers on an Israeli-Mossad team who in 1964 capture a notorious Nazi doctor who had performed human experimentation in a German extermination camp, and, when he escapes from them, they report him as being shot once in the head and killed during his attempted escape. Rien ne va plus pour le Directeur des Ressources Humaines de la plus grande boulangerie de Jérusalem : il s’est séparé de sa femme, sa fille le boude et il est empêtré dans un boulot qu’il déteste. A la tête d’un convoi chaotique, entre le fils de la défunte, en révolte contre tous, un exaspérant journaliste, une consule excentrique et un encombrant cercueil, le DRH retrouve son humanité et sa vraie capacité à s’occuper des « ressources humaines ».

Aviya's Summer is set in the summer of 1951, in the newly established state of Israel.
