Synopsis
Pierrot est un adolescent de 13 ans, discret et renfermé, qui vit seul avec son père depuis le décès de sa mère, survenu dix ans plus tôt. Bien que perturbé par cette tragédie, le garçon ne garde aucun souvenir conscient de la défunte. Un jour, Pierrot est témoin d'une humiliation ordinaire infligée à son père sur la voie publique. Il reste profondément marqué par ce dramatique épisode, qui résonne douloureusement en lui et ne tarde pas à produire des réactions en chaîne. Cet événement, pourtant tristement banal, révèle dès lors la grande fragilité de Pierrot, qui bascule dangereusement dans la folie...Actors

The film opens up with home videos of a husband and wife at the beach with their young son. During a glorious Southern California summer, high school student Benny King (Hopkins) is doing time flipping burgers. The movie begins in a theatre, where Dominik Santorski and his parents listen to Schubert's lied "Der Doppelgänger", which provides a key to the interpretation of the whole film. His parents have success-driven careers and are out of touch with their son's life. Dominik is popular at his private school, but is also spoiled by the perks given to him by his wealthy parents. While at school, his friends stumble upon a self-harm video while using his computer. Later, he watches the rest of the self-harm video and leaves a comment for the poster.
