Synopsis
Quelque part dans le temps en Europe, dans une cité où crimes et corruption fleurissent, un tribunal non officiel, le Mordbüro, a été constitué par des petites gens. Un menuisier, Leo Stoychev, vient y parler de la tentative d'assassinat dont il a été la victime, et désigner son agresseur en la personne de Branco, son patron. Une parodie de procès a lieu, suivi de peu par une dissolution complète du Mordburo organisée par son créateur, le tailleur KMB, qui entreprend d'éliminer ses membres uns à uns... Leo Stoychev se retrouve mêlé malgré lui à ce procédé diabolique tandis que l'inspecteur Raoul, chargé officiellement de l'affaire, semble plus intéressé par le charme troublant de Madame Behar, veuve d'un richissime avocat exécuté par le Mordbüro, que par les agissements de l'organisation secrète.Actors

L'histoire se déroule en 1983. Salak et Tuang sont des voleurs professionnels. Un jour, alors qu'ils tentent d'ouvrir un coffre-fort, ils sont surpris par les propriétaires. Tuang tue les propriétaires et s'enfuit. Salak se fait arrêter par la police mais il parvient à s'échapper. Salak se réfugie dans la région très rurale de Betong et refait sa vie sous la fausse identité de Charan : il travaille à la station service-garage du brave Boonpreng. Mais un jour la magnifique épouse du garagiste, Charang, découvre que Charan est en réalité un prisonnier en fuite. Elle l'oblige à ouvrir le coffre-fort de son mari mais la suite ne se passe pas comme prévu.

Joe Stefanos (Paul Valentine) arrives at small, out-of-the-way Bridgeport, California, in search of Jeff Bailey (Mitchum). Jeff is away, off on a picnic with local girl Ann Miller (Virginia Huston). Handicapped farmer Pete Morgan (Edward G. Robinson) and sister Ellen (Judith Anderson) live on an isolated farm with their adoptive daughter, Meg (Allene Roberts) who is actually their niece. They keep to themselves and are viewed as mysterious by the nearby town. Now a teenager, Meg convinces Pete to hire one of her 12th grade high school classmates, Nath Storm (Lon McCallister) to come help with chores on the farm. Everyone gets along great, until Nath says he is going to take a shortcut home through the old woods to go home. The woods are part of Pete's property and he forbids anyone from entering them.
