The film was selected as the Macedonian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards, but it didn't make the final shortlist. It was screened in the Main Programme of the Panorama section at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.
Synopsis
Le film est divisé en trois histoires qui prennent des tournures documentaires. La première parle de deux petites filles de neuf ans qui déclarent à la police qu'elles ont vu un exhibitonniste, alors qu'elles n'en ont jamais vu. La deuxième raconte la rencontre de trois réalisateurs avec les derniers habitants d'un village déserté. La dernière histoire part de la découverte des cadavres de femmes de ménage violées et étranglées dans une petite ville.Comments

Shifting periodically between two parallel stories, Dust opens in present-day New York City with a young criminal, Edge (Adrian Lester), being confronted at gunpoint by an ailing old woman, Angela (Rosemary Murphy), whose apartment he is attempting to burglarize. While he awaits an opportunity to escape, she launches into a tale about two outlaw brothers, at the turn of the 20th century, who travel to Ottoman-controlled Macedonia. The two brothers have transient ill will between them, and they become estranged when confronted with a beautiful woman, Lilith (Anne Brochet).

The film is a biography of anarchist Sakae Ōsugi, who was assassinated by the Japanese military in 1923. The story tells of his relationship with three women: Hori Yasuko, his wife; Noe Itō, his third lover, who was to die with him; and his jealous, second lover, Masaoka Itsuko, a militant feminist who attempts to kill him in a tea house in 1916. Parallel to the telling of Ōsugi’s life, two students (Eiko and Wada) do research on the political theories and ideas of free love that he upheld. Some of the characters from the past and from the present meet and engage the themes of the movie.

The film emulates the 1968 trip made by Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins to Patagonia, but rather than by land, Jeff Johnson travels by sea from Mexico and south along the west coast of Chile. The film opens with original home movie footage as taken by Chouinard and Tompkins, and then continues with Johnson's own footage, in which he includes surfing, sailing and climbing as the film follows Johnson signing on with a small boat heading for Chile, his being delayed for several weeks on Easter Island, his meeting travel partner Makohe, and in his reaching Patagonia, Johnson meeting with Chouinard and Tompkins. The film concludes with his attempt to climb Cerro Corcovado (the Corcovado volcano), an attempt that was halted 200 feet from the summit out of concerns for safety.
