Christian

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The Moulin Rouge. A night club, a dance hall, and a bordello. Ruled over by Harold Zidler. A kingdom of night time pleasures, where the rich and powerful came to play with the young and beautiful creatures of the underworld. The most beautiful of all these was the woman I loved. Satine. A courtesan, she sold her love to men. They called her the 'Sparkling Diamond', and she was the star of the Moulin Rouge. The woman I loved is…dead.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I first came to Paris one year ago. It was 1899, the summer of love. I knew nothing of the Moulin Rouge, Harold Zidler or Satine. The world had been swept up in the Bohemian revolution and I had traveled from London to be a part of it. On a hill near Paris, was the village of Montmartre. It was not what my father had said. But the center of the Bohemian world. Musicians, painters, writers. They were known as the children of the revolution. Yes! I had come to live a penniless existence. I had come to write about truth, beauty, freedom and at which I believed above all things, love. But there was only one problem.....I'd never been in love! Fortunately, at that moment, an unconscious Argentinian fell through my roof. He was quickly joined by a dwarf dressed as a nun.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The Hills are alive, with the sound of music. With songs they have sung for a thousand years

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Silly of me, to think y-you could fall in love with someone like me.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Can't fall in love? But a life without love, that-that-that's terrible!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Above all things I believe in love. Love is like oxygen- love is a many splendored thing- love lifts us up where we belong! All you need is love!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [singing] Come what may... come what may. I will love you, until my dying day!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook It's a little bit funny this feeling inside, I'm not one of those who can easily hide...

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [singing] Why does my heart cry? Feelings I can't fight. You're free to leave me, but just don't deceive me. And please, believe me when I say I love you.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook This woman is yours now. I've paid my whore. I owe you nothing. And you're nothing to me. (scuffles to hold back tears) Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. And then, one not-so-very special day, I went to my typewriter, I sat down, and I wrote our story. A story about a time, a story about a place, a story about the people. But above all things, a story about love. A love that will live forever. The End.

Satine

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Please tell me you're not another one of Toulouse's oh-so-talented, charmingly bohemian, tragically impoverished protégés!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I don't need you anymore! All my life you made believe I was only worth what someone would pay for me! But Christian loves me! He loves me, Harold. He loves me and that is worth everything! We're going away from you, away from the Duke, away from the Moulin Rouge! Good-bye Harold.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Tell our story, Christian. Promise me. Yes. That way I'll... I'll always be with you.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [Before kissing Christian] You're going to be bad for business, I can tell.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The difference between you and I is that you can leave anytime you choose. But this is my home. The Moulin Rouge is my home.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Christian, I'm a courtesan. I'm paid to make men believe what they want to believe.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [singing] Love is just a game.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I couldn't. I saw you there and I felt differently and the Duke he saw... Christian I love you. I don't want to pretend anymore. I didn't want to lie and he knows, he knows.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Duke! Don’t you toy with my emotions! [fake sobs] You must know the effect you have on women.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [singing] If I should die... this very moment.. I wouldn't fear. I've never known completeness like being here, wrapped in the warmth of you, loving every breath of you...

Harold Zidler

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The Moulin... Rouge!!!!!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Everything's going so well!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The Duke holds the deeds to the Moulin Rouge. He's spending a fortune on you. He's giving you a beautiful new dressing room. He wants to make you a star, and you are dallying with the writer!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The show must go on.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook She says it feels so good, inside, when you hold her, and touch her; it makes her feel like a ... virgin.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook We're creatures of the underworld. We can't afford to love.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Hurt him. Hurt him to save him.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook A magnificent, opulent, tremendous, stupendous, gargantuan bedazzlement, a sensual ravishment. It will be: Spectacular Spectacular. No words in the vernacular can describe this great event. You'll be dumb with wonderment. Returns are fixed at 10%. You must admit that's excellent. And on top of your fee, you'll be involved artistically.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook My little sparrow is dying. She mustn't know, Marie.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Welcome, to the Moulin Rouge!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Invest? Invest! Oh yes, well, invest! You can hardly blame me for trying to hide, uh, Christian away.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Outside it may be raining, but in here it's entertaining!

The Duke

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Why would the courtesan choose the penniless sitar player over the maharajah, who is offering a lifetime of security? That's real love. Once the sitar player has satisfied his lust, he will leave the courtesan with nothing.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I forgot my hat. [seeing Satine passed out with Christian on the bed] Foul play?!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook You expect me to believe that scantily clad, in the arms of another man, in the middle of the night, inside an elephant, you were "rehearsing"?

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I don't care about your ridiculous dogma!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine will be mine. It's not that I'm a jealous man... I just don't like other people touching my things!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook And in the end should someone die?

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Generally I like it.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook You made me believe that you loved me.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook It's the boy, he has bewitched with her the words. Tell her that the show will end my way and she will come to me when the curtain falls...or I'll have the boy killed.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Look, my dear! A little frog!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Let Zidler keep his fairy tale ending.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook It's a little bit funny—this feeling inside.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook I don't like this ending.

Toulouse-Lautrec

Facebook Share this quote on facebook How do you do? My name is Henri Marie Raymond Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Killed. Killed? Killed! I must warn him!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Clean yourself off you bourgeois pig! [snorts]

Facebook Share this quote on facebook He's got a huge talent! [looking at Satine and Christian through the window]

The Narcoleptic Argentinean

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The hills are alive with the sound of music! I love it!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Aw! The boy has talent! I like him. [touches Christian's crotch] Nothing funny [takes hand off, and laughs nervously], I just like talent.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Never fall in love with a woman who sells herself. It always ends BAD!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook We have a dance in the brothels of Buenos Aires. It tells the story of a prostitute and a man who falls in love with her. First, there is desire. Then passion...! Then, suspicion. Jealousy! Anger! Betrayal! When love is for the highest bidder, there can be no trust. Without trust, there is no love. Jealousy! Yes, jealousy...will drive you, mad!!!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook All right! No problems! Go back to work!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The hills are incarnate with symphonic melodies! [falls back asleep]

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [to a dancer] You are a beautiful woman. [whispers] I love sex.

Other

Facebook Share this quote on facebook The Bohemians: Stand your ground for freedom, beauty, truth & love.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Nini: This ending's silly. Why would the courtesan fall for the penniless writer- [spitefully] Oops! I meant sitar player!

Dialogue

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: What's his type? Wilting flower? [sighs] Bright and bubbly? [giggles] Or smoldering temptress? [growls]
Zidler: I'd say, smoldering temptress.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook [As Satine is being carried to her dressing room, having passed out.]
Nini: Looks like the Duke won't be getting his money's worth tonight.
Dancer: Don't be unkind, Nini!
[They both giggle]

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Zidler: SHE'S CONFESSING!
The Duke: Confessing?! What kind of imbecile do you take me for, Zidler?!
Zidler: She suddenly had a terrible desire...to go to a priest and...confess her sins.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Zidler: I AM THE EVIL MAHARAJAH! YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE!
Satine: Oh Harold, no one could play him like you could!
Zidler: No one's going to.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Zidler: The Duke holds the deeds to the Moulin Rouge, he's spending a fortune on you, he's giving you a beautiful new dressing room, he wants to make you a star, and YOU'RE DALLYING WITH THE WRITER!
Satine: Harold, that's ridic...
Zidler: I SAW YOU TOGETHER.
Satine: It's nothing. It's just an infatuation... it's nothing.
Zidler: The infatuation will end. Go to the boy; tell him it's over, and the Duke is expecting you in the tower at eight.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Toulouse-Lautrec: Things aren’t always the way they seem.
Christian: Things are exactly the way they seem.
Toulouse-Lautrec: Christian, you may see me only as a drunken, vice-ridden gnome whose friends are just pimps and girls from the brothels. But I know what love is, only because I long for it with every fiber of my being. She loves you, I know it, I know she loves you.
Christian: Go away, Toulouse. Leave me alone. [Toulouse-Lautrec cringes but does not leave] Go. Away. [Toulouse-Lautrec still looks at Christian] GO AWAY!!!!!!!! [wordlessly, Toulouse-Lautrec leaves]
Christian: [narrating] I wanted to shut out what Toulouse had said, but he had filled me with doubt and there was only one way to be sure. I had to know. So I returned to the Moulin Rouge one last time. [Christian enters the Moulin Rouge and the show begins]
Zidler: SHEEEEEEEEEEE'S MINE!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Zidler: [as the evil Maharajah waiting for the Courtesan] Open the door!
Christian: [as the penniless sitar player pleading to the Courtesan] TELL ME YOU DON'T LOVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Songs

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Toulouse-Lautrec: There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far
Very far
Over land and sea
A little shy
And sad of eye
But very wise, was he
And then one day
One magic day he, passed my way
and while we spoke of many things, fools and kings, this he said to me . . .
The greatest thing, you'll ever learn, is just to love, and be loved . . . in return

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: The French are glad to die for love.
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man who lives
And gives expensive . . .
Jewels.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend
A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental on your humble flat
Or help you feed your (purrs) pussycat

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Men grow cold as girls grow old
And we all lose our charms in the end
But square-cut or pear shaped these rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend

Facebook Share this quote on facebook 'Cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl (Blows kiss)

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Come and get me boys (Whoops)

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Black star, roscore
Talk to me Harry Zildler, tell me all about it!

Facebook Share this quote on facebook There may come a time when a lass needs a lawyer
But diamonds are a girl's best friend

Facebook Share this quote on facebook There may come a time when a hard-boiled employer think you're-

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Zidler: Awfully nice.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: Ah! But get that ice or else no dice

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Girls of the Moulin Rouge: He's your guy when, stocks are high
But beware when they start to descend

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Diamonds are a girl's best,
Diamonds are a girl's best,
Diamonds are a girl's best friend

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: 'Cause that's what those louses go back to their spouses
Diamonds . . .
Are a . . .
Girl's . . .
Best . . .
..(Satine gasps and falls)

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: I follow the night
Can't stand the light
When will I begin
To live again
One day I'll fly away
Leave all this to yesterday
What more could your love do for me
When will love be through with me
Why live life from dream to dream
And dread the day when dreaming ends

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Christian: How wonderful life is, now you're in the world

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Satine: One day I'll fly away
Leave all this to yesterday
Why live life from dream to dream
And dread the day
When dreaming ends
One day I'll fly away...
Fly...fly...away

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Christian (spoken): Love is like oxygen.
Satine (spoken): What?
Christian (spoken): Love is a many-splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong! All you need is love.
Satine (spoken): Please don't start that again.
Christian: All you need is love.
Satine (spoken): A girl has got to eat –
Christian: All you need is love.
Satine (spoken): She'll end up on the street!
Christian: All you need is love.
Satine (spoken): Love is just a game.
Music begins
Christian: I was made for loving you, baby, you were made for loving me.
Satine: The only way of loving me, baby, is to pay a lovely fee.
Christian: Just one night, give me just one night.
Satine: There's no way, 'cause you can't pay.
Christian: In the name of love, one night in the name of love.
Satine: You crazy fool, I won't give in to you.
Christian: Don't…leave me this way. I can't survive, without your sweet love, oh baby…don't leave me this way.
Satine: You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.
Christian: I look around me and I see, it isn't so. Oh, no.
Satine: Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs.
Christian: Well, what's wrong with that? ... I'd like to know ... 'cause here I go again! ...Love lifts us up where we belong-
Satine (spoken): Get down! Get down!
Christian: Where eagles fly, on a mountain high!
Satine: Love makes us act like we are fools. Throw our lives away, for one happy day.
Christian: We could be heroes ... Just for one day.
Satine: You, you will be mean.
Christian: No, I won't!
Satine: And I... I'll drink all the time.
Christian: We should be lovers.
Satine: We can't do that.
Christian: We should be lovers, and that's a fact.
Satine: Though nothing will keep us together
Christian: We could steal time-
Christian and Satine: Just for one day ... We could be heroes, forever and ever! ... We could be heroes, forever and ever! ... We can be heroes!
Christian: Just because I ... will always love you.
Satine: I
Christian and Satine: Can't help loving –
Christian: You.
Satine: How wonderful life is
Christian and Satine: Now You're in the world.
Satine (spoken): You're going to be bad for business, I can tell.
Christian and Satine kiss
Operatic outro (The singing moon): Evviva la forza dell'amor.

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Christian: Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing,
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Facebook Share this quote on facebook Come what may
