Partners Again (1926) is a lost American silent comedy film, produced by Samuel Goldwyn, released through United Artists, and directed by Henry King.

This ethnic Jewish humor film is based on the 1922 Broadway play Partners Again starring Alex Carr and Barney Bernard, which reprises their characters from the very successful 1913 Broadway play Potash and Perlmutter (441 performances from 1913 to 1915). Goldwyn produced a 1923 film adaptation of Potash and Perlmutter, and a 1924 sequel called In Hollywood with Potash and Perlmutter. In Partners Again the two are in the automobile industry.

As with the 1924 film, In Hollywood with Potash and Perlmutter, George Sidney plays Potash, taking up the role after Barney Bernard died in March of that year. Alex Carr continues his winning role of Perlmutter.

Synopsis

In a flashback to the 1920s, Margie is a high-spirited girl living with her dominant but good-hearted Grandmother McSweeney (Esther Dale). Her mother has died and her father (Hobart Cavanaugh), the local mortician, lives apart from Margie and her grandmother, only visiting on Wednesday due to his busy work schedule, and sometimes not even staying long enough to see his daughter. The youngest girl in her class, Margie does very well at her schoolwork, but she is not socially adept and wears old-fashioned clothing, including bloomers that frequently fall down. By contrast, her pretty and fashionable neighbor Marybelle Tenor (Barbara Lawrence) wears short skirts and lipstick and dates the popular but dimwitted captain of the football team, Johnny Green (Conrad Janis). Margie secretly has a crush on Johnny, but he regards her as a "pain in the neck". When Margie meets the handsome new French teacher at her high school, Professor Ralph Fontayne (Glenn Langan), she becomes even more smitten with him, and he seems to take an interest in her as well. O'Day comes to strongly support Fulton and his visionary steamship after lodging at her establishment. O'Day's longtime suitor, Charles Browne (Fred MacMurray), opens his own shipyard to assist the dapper engineer by building Fulton's innovative steamboat. With financial assistance from Chancellor Robert L. Livingstone (Henry Stephenson) and additional investments from O'Day and her business acquaintances, Fulton eventually obtains all the financing needed to finish his revolutionary paddle steamer. After a shipwright named Regan (Ward Bond) has a run-in with Fulton, Regan attempts to turn every local deck hand and sail-powered passenger boat operator against the engineer, exploiting their fear of losing their livelihoods to a steam-powered vessel.
