Synopsis
Alice Moffit , alias " Poker Alice", a été déshéritée par sa famille de Boston à cause de son inconditionnelle passion pour les jeux. Partie en voyage vers l'est des États-Unis avec son cousin, elle gagne alors une maison lors d'un tournoi de poker dans un train. La "maison" se révèle alors être un bordel qu'elle décide de tenir jusqu'à ce qu'elle puisse le revendre. Elle tombe ensuite amoureuse de Jeremy Collins qui est sur le point de partir s'installer en Californie. Mais se marier voudrait dire mettre un terme à sa relation fusionnelle avec son cousin ...Actors

When Ahmed, a Palestinian guerrilla, is killed, his brother Omar takes his place. Omar is wounded while disguised as an Israeli but escapes from the hospital to avoid questioning. Before being transported to the safety of the camps, he is treated by David, an Israeli doctor and friend of the family. David’s conscience persuades him to go to the camp to help alleviate the suffering. The resistance he gets from some of the militants culminates in the death of him and Omar.

Lise Mueller (Kamie Harper) and Inge Dornenwald (Jenny Lewis) are 13-ish year old best friends in Vienna, Austria of 1938, in the months before and during the Anschluss. Lise is Catholic and Inge is Jewish. Trouble comes since Lise's father is a Nazi sympathizer who travels to and from Germany to join the paramilitary Nazi SA upon the upcoming Anschluss, bringing her mother, who is helpless to do anything about it, and her older brother, Heinz, who is himself a Nazi sympathizer like his father. Lise's father forbids Inge to visit them anymore and Inge's parents do likewise with her. But they both meet in secret, ex. the large cathedral in Vienna.

The film opens at the London Exchange on Christmas Eve in 1843 where everybody is looking forward to Christmas Day except for the crabby and greedy miser Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge who hates Christmas shows his cold attitude to others by refusing to show mercy to a father and his daughter who are in debt, supporting the prisons and workhouses for the poor and refusing to dine with his nephew Fred. That night though as Scrooge dines alone before going to bed the ghost of his seven-year dead partner Jacob Marley appears. He tells Scrooge to repent or suffer the same as him by wearing a chain as Marley wears the one he forged from his own greed. Other ghosts also haunt Scrooge who too wear chains implying they were selfish and cold-hearted when they were alive. Marley tells Scrooge he will be haunted by three spirits and the first will call at One.
