Add to a movie listState Fair is a 1962 American musical film directed by José Ferrer. The film is a remake of the 1933 and 1945 films of the same name. It was considered to be a financially and critically unsuccessful film. It starred Pat Boone, Bobby Darin, Ann-Margret, Tom Ewell, Pamela Tiffin and Alice Faye.
Richard Rodgers wrote additional songs, both music and lyrics, for this version. His partner Oscar Hammerstein had died in 1960.
While the stage musical, 1933 and 1945 film were set at the Iowa State Fair, this 1962 version was filmed in Dallas, Texas, where the State Fair of Texas takes place every year in Fair Park. The Tilt-A-Whirl that was used in the film is currently at a small theme park in Golden, Colorado.

Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson), a popular rock and roll star, receives an Army draft notice, devastating his teenage fans across the nation. Albert Peterson (Dick Van Dyke) is an unsuccessful songwriter, the family business, although he has a doctorate in biochemistry. He schemes with his secretary and long-suffering girlfriend Rosie DeLeon (Janet Leigh) to have Birdie sing a song Albert will write, but Birdie's conscription puts a halt to the plan. Nick Conover (Pat Boone), a Chicago youth, is moving to the Kentucky horse farm of his Aunt Henrietta Bruce (Jeanette Nolan) and Uncle Jed Bruce (Arthur O'Connell), neither of whom has he seen since he was a child. This move, suggested by Aunt Henrietta, is part of Nick’s parole condition after being convicted for joyriding in a stolen vehicle with his friends. Richard Sherman (Tom Ewell) is a nerdy, faithful, middle-aged publishing executive with an overactive imagination and a mid-life crisis, whose wife Helen (Evelyn Keyes) and son Ricky (Butch Bernard) are spending the summer in Maine. A tomato plant then crashes into his lounge chair; the woman upstairs apologizes for accidentally knocking it over, and Richard invites her down for a drink.

Seventeen-year-old Jack "Cowboy" Kelly (Christian Bale), is one of the hundreds of homeless and orphaned children who sell newspapers in New York City during the 1890s to support themselves. Jack and his fellow newsboys ("newsies" for short), work for Joseph Pulitzer selling his newspaper, the New York World, on the streets of Manhattan. The boys hit the streets of New York each morning, getting breakfast from nuns and heading toward the paper distribution center ("Carrying the Banner"). One morning at the distribution center, Jack meets David "Davey" Jacobs (David Moscow), who has joined the newsies along with his younger brother, Les.
