Strange Brew (also known as The Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew) is a 1983 Canadian comedy film starring the popular SCTV characters Bob and Doug McKenzie, portrayed by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis, who also served as co-directors. Co-stars include Max von Sydow, Paul Dooley, Lynne Griffin and Angus MacInnes.
Loosely based on elements of Shakespeare's Hamlet, most of the film was shot in the Southern Ontario area. Toronto, Scarborough, Kitchener, and Hamilton were the main locations. Parts of the movie were also filmed in Prince George, British Columbia.

Synopsis

Two unemployed brothers, Bob and Doug McKenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas), place a live mouse in a beer bottle in an attempt to blackmail the local beer store into giving them free Elsinore beer, but are told to take up the matter at the Elsinore brewery instead. After presenting the mouse to management at the brewery, the brothers are given jobs on the bottling line inspecting the bottles for mice.

Planet Spaceball, led by the incompetent President Skroob, has wasted all of its air. Skroob sends the villainous Dark Helmet to complete this task with Spaceball One, an impossibly huge ship helmed by Colonel Sandurz. American Splendor retrace la véritable histoire du scénariste de comics Harvey Pekar. Au début du film, celui-ci mène une existence plutôt morose entre son travail de documentaliste, quelques conversations sur tout et rien avec ses collègues et quelques connaissances, et sa passion pour le jazz, qu'il assouvit en recherchant des pièces rares dans les garage sales (équivalent américain des vide-greniers) ou les magasins d'occasion. C'est ainsi qu'il fait la connaissance du célèbre dessinateur de bande dessinée Robert Crumb, alors inconnu, qui est lui aussi collectionneur. Plusieurs années plus tard, alors que Crumb est devenu célèbre, Harvey lui soumet les story-boards d'un projet de bande dessinée basée sur sa vie, lui proposant d'en assurer le dessin. Crumb accepte, et contre toute attente, cette série intitulée American Splendor relatant une vie simple, banale, obtient un grand succès. Harvey Pekar acquiert ainsi une certaine célébrité aux États-Unis, dont les conséquences sur sa vie quotidienne sont présentées dans le film. En particulier, American Splendor lui permet de rencontrer sa future femme Joyce Brabner, qui écrit elle aussi des comics, et avec qui il va réaliser d'autres histoires autobiographiques, également intégrées en partie dans le film (notamment Our Cancer Year).

Le cartoon commence avec Daffy Duck déguisé en mousquetaire dans le lieu approprié. Lorsqu'il avance vers la gauche, le décor n'est pas fini. Daffy sort discrètement de l'écran puis revient et brise le quatrième mur en demandant qui est responsable du cartoon et demande de redessiner ce décor, le résultat est une ferme, obligeant Daffy à se déguiser en fermier. Il chante jusqu'à revoir le décor en blanc. Il redemande au quatrième mur « Est-ce qu'il sera trop de vous demander de vous décider une bonne fois pour toutes ? », puis des décors respectivement enneigés, hawaïens, une colorisation par erreur sur Daffy (Daffy ayant demander de colorier une ville sans la préciser), un décor où Daffy est en marin, un gros plan malcompris par le dessinateur et une mine que Daffy frappe accidentellement le poussent à demander qui est le dessinateur, qui s'avère être Bugs Bunny.

As Paul Cheriyan (Basil) prepares to leave for his office, he sees several people coming into his building.
