Add to a movie listSunday Lovers is a 1980 internationally co-produced romantic comedy film directed by Bryan Forbes, Gene Wilder, Dino Risi and Edouard Molinaro. It starred Roger Moore, Gene Wilder, Priscilla Barnes, Lynn Redgrave, Denholm Elliott and Kathleen Quinlan. It is split into four segments, each from a different country (England, France, USA and Italy).
The film is notable for its use of sepia tones and slow wide angle shots to build a sense of impending dread. It was released in Italy in October 1980 and in America in early 1981 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and United Artists. It was one of the last combined U.S.-European production made for general release, and featured final screen appearances from Sylvia Koscina and Lino Ventura

The film is set in Rome in 1922. Two friends returning from the First World War, Rocchetti and Cavazza, participating in the Fascist Party, are convinced that the movement and the leader Mussolini can guarantee a period of peace, growth and stability in an Italy torn destruction of the bombs. Unfortunately the joys of the two friends soon vanish, as Mussolini proves to be a tyrant, who performs after the March on Rome. When Rocchetti try to rebel and autolicenziarsi from the party, is beaten to death. Fortunately Gavazza save him, and run away with the friend. En 1946, Marco prend du bon temps et navigue sur le Lac Majeur. Lors d'une escale il se fait aborder par Maître Orimbelli qui semble s'ennuyer. Ce dernier l'invite à dîner chez lui et lui présente sa femme irascible et sa belle-sœur Matilde, dont le mari est mort à la guerre. Orimbelli insiste pour que Marco reste dormir dans la plus belle chambre de la villa : la chambre de l'évêque. Le lendemain, Marco, qui doit aller rejoindre Charlotte, une amie, trouve Orimbelli qui l'attend sur son bateau. Celui-ci, jouant l'apitoiement, lui force la main pour profiter du voyage. Marco cède. Il ne tardera pas à découvrir qu'Orimbelli est prêt à tout pour arriver à ses fins avec les femmes qui passent à sa portée.

Set in Rome and its surroundings, the film tells in a frighteningly realistic, ruthless and grotesque the evil of two powerful men of Italy in the seventies: a Director of illegal buildings (Vittorio Gassman), extremist fascist, and an upright judge, cynical looking in part to the Italian law (Ugo Tognazzi). Both can not stand each other, given the contrasts between the two men in any social, political and philosophical. Everyone hates each other and would like to delete it, but just because of the bad example that the two men give power to the people, many Italians are adversely affected because of cheating and rudeness of the fascist manufacturer and the communist magistrate. The director Dino Risi underlines the misdeeds and the weakness of the Italian people to react accordingly, by focusing on the story of these two men who are each other's opposite of the net.
