Synopsis

Après avoir laissé son mari Henry Vaan emprisonné à Houston, la belle Violet Barton, elle-même recherchée par la police de San Antonio, s'installe dans la ville frontière de La Mirada avec sa sœur Janet. Alors que Janet ouvre une boutique, Violet fait du charme à un joueur de blackjack pour qu'il vole de l'argent à son patron, Greg De Laney, afin de pouvoir lui acheter un bracelet. Lorsque Greg arrive chez elle pour récupérer ce bracelet, Violet flirte avec lui.

In 1943, Capt. Harold "Cal" Calvert (Wendell Corey) is sent on a course at Smoky Hill, Kansas, to learn to fly a new bomber, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. His instructor is his cousin, Major Tom West (Forrest Tucker), an officer who the other pilots think has shirked his duties by claiming engine trouble on the raid over the Ploesti oil fields. Entranced by Eugenie's beauty, Bonaparte arranges for his romantic rival to be assigned to a diplomatic post in Egypt, joining his father, Count Mathieu de Lesseps (Henry Stephenson), the Consul-General. De Lesseps impulsively asks Eugenie to marry him immediately, but she turns him down.
