Synopsis

The proceedings of a Paris courtroom are the grist for this documentary. Drawn from over 200 appearances before the same female judge, the director chooses a dozen or so varied misdemeanor and civil hearings to highlight the subtle details of human behaviour. In the process he draws attention to issues of guilt, innocence, policing and ethnicity in France.

Deux détenus menottés, chacun accompagné d'un policier traversent les longs couloirs qui mènent de la Préfecture de police au Palais de Justice de Paris. Depuis une loi de septembre 2013, toute personne internée en hôpital psychiatrique sans son consentement doit être présentée à un juge des libertés et de la détention dans un délai de douze jours. Le juge dispose d'un rapport du psychiatre, mais il n'y a pas de présence médicale lors de l'entretien. Le documentaire montre le face à face du juge et du patient, assisté de son avocat.
