It was theatrically released in France in February 2004 and led the French box office in its first week of release.
Synopsis
Variety's review of the film describes its plot as "Six lads. . . embark on idiotic physical challenges at the behest of the God of Jokes (Dieudonné), to restore mirth to a morose planet." Based on a true story, the film chronicles the relationship of a teacher with teenagers who have long since dropped out of the school system. Jean-Claude (25) and Pierrot (23) are young sociopathic men who travel around France, committing petty crimes and running from the law. Marius and Jeannette live in the same working-class apartment complex in Marseille, in close proximity with their neighbors. The lame Marius is a security guard at an abandoned cement works, and since the company has gone out of business and the plant will soon be demolished, he is squatting in order to save money. Jeannette is a single mother raising her two children on her own on a meagre supermarket checkout operator salary. They meet when Jeannette tries to steal two cans of paint from the cement lot, and Marius catches her and tries to chase her. The following day Marius comes to her door to apologize, and brings her the two cans of paint. A relationship soon develops between them, but as both have been wounded by marital difficulties, and life in general, they are hesitant to become committed. It does not help that Jeannette's romantic fantasy notions are different from Marius' practical ideas. The two must learn how to love again in order for their relationship to blossom.

Laurent Monier est professeur agrégé d'histoire au lycée Fénelon d'Annecy. Le jour de ses 40 ans, il rentre dans son appartement plongé dans le noir ; il ignore que sa femme, ses enfants, sa belle-mère et ses amis sont en réalité dissimulés dans l'obscurité, n'attendant que le bon moment pour lui faire une surprise. Mais avant que son épouse n'ait pu rallumer la lumière, Monier décroche le téléphone et se croyant seul, bavarde avec l'appelant que l'on devine être sa maîtresse. Hélène, sa femme, rallume alors la lumière et s'enfuit dans sa chambre, alors même que leur jeune fils enclenche innocemment une cassette audio diffusant une chanson de joyeux anniversaire. Monier découvre le désastre sous l'œil narquois de son inénarrable belle-mère et de ses amis, qui ne savent plus où se mettre. Le couple divorce. Hélène étant nommée dans un lycée parisien, Laurent demande également sa mutation afin de rester près de ses enfants. Dans ce collège, on l'affecte à la classe réputée la plus dissipée et indisciplinée de l'établissement, la 4e Techno. L'appartement de fonction qui lui est alloué, auparavant occupé par un professeur dépressif, se trouve dans la Cité des Mûriers, considérée comme la plus dure et violente des environs.

Dans une cité de la région parisienne, Talia, 13 ans, fait une fugue à la suite d'une nouvelle dispute avec son beau-père. Elle part avec Kim, sa chienne Pit Bull très placide. Elle rencontre une bande de jeunes garçons préadolescents dans une cité voisine qui l'hébergent. Ayant besoin d'argent et mal conseillés par des grands-frères, ils volent la chienne de Talia pour la faire combattre après avoir tenté de l'entraîner, mais dépassés par la tâche, ils finissent par la vendre.
