Synopsis
Also known as Conquest of Mycene (1963). A deposed prince arrives in a city ruled over by a cult that worships an evil monster as a god. He becomes a gladiator and his feats in the arena earn him a place on the queen's royal guard, but secretly he plots to lead a revolution and destroy the creature that has enslaved the people.Actors

The city-state of Rome has just expelled its Etruscan overlords and become a republic. The Etruscans declare war in an attempt to regain their territory; in the ensuing battle, they capture the courageous warrior Scaevola and threaten to torture him unless he gives them strategic information. Scaevola thrusts his right hand into a brazier and lets it burn, demonstrating that he loves Rome too much to care about physical pain. The awed Etruscans release him, but the damage to his hand prevents him from wielding a sword.

La cité grecque d'Argos est victime d'un coup d'État ourdi par le tyrannique Acrisios, assisté de son complice Galenore. Le jeune Persée, héritier légitime du trône, ignore encore ses origines : il mène la vie d'un pâtre, bientôt amoureux d'Andromède, mais Acrisios l'enlève. Persée accourt jusqu'à la cité et découvre le nom de son véritable père, Céphée, et de sa mère Danaé. Acrisios apprend que Persée est en ville et lui impose une mission impossible : tuer Méduse, la monstrueuse Gorgone. Méduse ressemble ici à une plante à tentacules dotée d'un œil unique ; elle peut animer et contrôler les hommes qu'elle a changés en statues. Persée affronte aussi un monstrueux dragon. Le héros réussit grâce à l'épée et au miroir dont il s'est muni, afin d'éviter le regard pétrifiant du monstre. De retour à Argos, Persée réclame le trône, mais Acrisios refuse : une bataille s'engage au cours de laquelle le héros triomphe du tyran.

The film opens with the statement that the people of Troy must once a month sacrifice a maiden lest a sea monster destroy their city. Because of this, some families flee Troy only to be captured by pirates. Hercules (Gordon Scott), aboard the Olympia, comes across one of these ships and frees the Trojans aboard. Going to Troy, Hercules is given use of two horses that cannot be wounded by arrows. He then learns from Ortag (Roger Browne) the monster's weakness: its armor doesn't cover its belly.
