Librement adapté du roman éponyme publié par l'animatrice Flavie Flament en octobre 2016, il a reçu le prix du meilleur téléfilm au Festival de la fiction TV de La Rochelle en 2017.
Synopsis
Flavie est une animatrice de télévision réputée. Un soir qu’elle s’apprête à enregistrer une émission, elle est terrassée par un malaise comme elle en a régulièrement depuis que son grand-père est mort, quelques semaines plus tôt. Après avoir consulté divers « spécialistes » (sophrologue, naturopathe, podologue, chiropracteur) et fait le constat qu’elle ne souffre de rien sur le plan médical, elle finit par consulter un psychothérapeute, lequel, ayant rapidement diagnostiqué une « disjonction émotionnelle » consécutive au décès du grand-père, explique à sa patiente ce qu’est l’ « amnésie traumatique » et l’invite à apporter lors des séances suivantes des photos d’elle enfant, pour aller ensemble à la recherche du « trauma » qu’il soupçonne d’être à l’origine de ses crises d’angoisse et des flashs dont elles s’accompagnent. À partir de là, le film fait alterner les séances de thérapie (il y en aura cinq, échelonnées sur plusieurs mois) avec sept séquences, beaucoup plus développées, qui présentent des moments de la vie de l’adolescente situés entre sa treizième et sa seizième années et qu’elle se remémore en feuilletant ses albums de photos. Mais ce travail de remémoration, répétitif et infructueux, finit par lasser et décourager Flavie, qui envisage de mettre fin à la thérapie. C’est alors qu’un incident fortuit — la chute d’une photo prise au polaroïd — fait soudain remonter du tréfonds de sa mémoire le souvenir, longtemps occulté, du viol commis sur elle, l’été de ses treize ans, par le célèbre photographe David Hamilton.Actors

The film opens with a man, later revealed to be named BJ, in a morgue who has sex with a corpse that has a biohazard symbol on the toe tag; afterward, he handles an empty test tube while washing up. Later, at a party, Samantha unsuccessfully attempts to contact her ex-girlfriend Nikki and meets with her friend Alice, who encourages Samantha to drink to forget about her recent break-up. Riley, who has an unrequited crush on Samantha, and Zain attempt to flirt with her, but Samantha brushes them off and excuses herself. She eventually gives in to Alice's intense pressure and becomes drunk. BJ introduces himself to Samantha and hands her a drink that he claims she dropped. Samantha, too drunk to know whether it is her drink or not, accepts it. Although she says she is a lesbian who is already involved in a relationship, as a result from being drunk and drugged, she agrees to have intercourse with BJ. From inside his car, Samantha begs BJ to stop and eventually blacks out.

In the summer of 1936, the violence of the Spanish Civil war reaches a small village in Mallorca. An American film crew has gone missing in the Amazon rainforest while on an expedition to film a documentary about indigenous cannibal tribes. In Boston in the early 1960s, Geraldine Cummins was walking home alone from the movies when she was jumped and raped by a black man. Stunned, she returned home to her husband Bob, stating she had been raped. Sometime later, she finds she is pregnant. In the beginning she hates the thought of her unborn baby, not wanting a constant reminder of her rapist, but keeps it for a few reasons: she is Catholic and she harbors a small hope that it could be her husband's baby. Her husband is supportive during the pregnancy. As the months pass, Gerry comes to be attached to the baby, later stating "8 months is too long to close your heart to a piece of yourself." She becomes fearful of what will happen if her baby is black, the social isolation it would receive and what people would think of her. After going into labor and confiding in a doctor her situation, she becomes convinced that it would be best if she gave it up. The baby is a black girl. She names her newborn daughter Barbara Anne Cummins and gives her to foster mother Corrine Burrel, a black woman in Roxbury, a black neighborhood. Gerry is heartbroken to give up her daughter.
