The First Beautiful Thing (Italian: La prima cosa bella) is a 2010 Italian drama film directed by Paolo Virzì, produced by Medusa Film, Motorino Amaranto and Indiana Production, released in Italy on 15 January 2010. The film stars Micaela Ramazzotti, Valerio Mastandrea, Claudia Pandolfi and Stefania Sandrelli.
On 9 November 2010 the film opened at the Cinema Italian style Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Synopsis
The film tells the story of the Michelucci family, from the 1970s to the present day: the central character is the stunningly beautiful Anna, the lively, frivolous and sometimes embarrassing mother of Bruno and Valeria. Everything begins in the Summer of 1971, at the annual Summer beauty pageant held at Livorno’s most popular bathing establishment. Anna is unexpectedly crowned “Most Beautiful Mother”, unwittingly stirring the violent jealousy of her husband, a Non-commissioned officer of Carabinieri. From then on, chaos strikes the family and for Anna, Bruno and his sister Valeria, it is the start of an adventure that will only end thirty years later. The whole movie is set when Bruno, a high school teacher who ended up living in Milan after managing to escape from Livorno and his mother, returns to his hometown to be at his mother’s side during her very last days, remembering all those key episodes of his family life through a long series of flashbacks.Actors

À la suite du la crise financière de 2008, James «Jimmy» Adams (James Lafferty) est mis à l'écart des premières lignes d'un fonds d'investissement, Alpha Managers. Après plusieurs tentatives infructueuses, Adams est embauché en tant que serveur sans qualification dans un diner : Papa's Chicken and Waffles, une chaîne de restaurants locale ouverte 24 heures sur 24 (le restaurant a été renommé dans les nouvelles versions du livre et dans le film). Le personnel de ce diner est hétéroclite : un responsable ne sachant pas concilier sa vie maritale et le milieu professionnel, des collaborateurs en majorité issus du monde carcéral, dont un cuisinier (Danny Glover) qui le surnomme sans cesse « Petit Jimmy » ou « Jimmy Jam ». Contrairement à ce qu'on pourrait penser, ce changement radical lui donnera les clés de la réussite sociale.

The film, like the play, focuses on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and their actions (or lack thereof) within the play of Hamlet. The film begins as they travel on horseback to Elsinore, contemplating fate, memory and language. Rosencrantz finds and continually flips a coin which always comes up heads, causing Guildenstern to conclude that something is wrong with reality. They meet a travelling troupe of tragedians on the way, and during their conversation with the lead Player, they are mysteriously transported into the action of Hamlet at Elsinore. They wander around the castle, trying to catch up to the action and understand what is going on by listening to other parts of the play. They are asked by the Danish royal couple to stay awhile in order to help find out the cause of, and hopefully cure, Prince Hamlet's gloomy state. They spend their time outside the scenes in Hamlet trying to figure out what is wrong with the prince and what is required of them.

The film opens on television footage of an ice dancer - a recurring motif in the film - before cutting away to Julien, a young man with untreated schizophrenia. In the opening scene, Julien meets up with a small child with several turtles, only to strangle him to death when he is denied one. The child is then buried by Julien under the mud whilst he prays for mercy from God.
