The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival on September 2, 2006, and received a limited theatrical release in the United States on August 24, 2007. It ran for 5 weeks and grossed $137,341 internationally. The film was subsequently issued on DVD in December 2007.
Synopsis
The film tells the story of a 20-year-old actor William (Mark Webber) who falls in love for the first time with an aspiring singer, Sarah (Catalina Sandino Moreno). As their love blossoms and languishes, young William reexamines himself and his relationship with his mother Jesse (Laura Linney) and estranged father Vince (Hawke himself).Actors

Jude Keffy-Horn (Asa Butterfield) is a teenage boy who lives in Vermont with his adoptive mother, Harriet (Julianne Nicholson), and sister, Prudence (Nadia Alexander). Mixed up in the complicated world of drugs and alcohol, his best friend, Teddy (Avan Jogia), dies of a drug overdose on the last day of 1987 after Teddy, Jude and their new friend, Eliza (Hailee Steinfeld) from Manhattan spend the night out partying, leaving Jude devastated. He soon starts hanging out with Johnny's group of straight-edge friends, that have strict no-drugs, no-sex, no-meat, and no-alcohol rules, keeping Jude out of trouble for the first time in years. When he finds out that Eliza, who is also the daughter of Les' girlfriend, Di (Emily Mortimer), is pregnant with the child of deceased Teddy after an encounter on the night Teddy died, he and Johnny, along with Les, become Eliza's rock as she struggles through pregnancy so early on in life, and the three become a family of sorts, in hopes to raise the child together. Meanwhile, Di struggles with her relationship with Les, and Harriet struggles with the prospect of her growing children.

Lukas (Mark Webber) is a young man who works as a tollbooth operator. He does not have much of a social life and spends much of his free time visiting his catatonic mother in the hospital. One day, one of the tollbooth customers tosses him a copy of Hitler's Mein Kampf, and Lukas reads it, prompting a Holocaust survivor (Allan Rich) to berate Lukas as he drives through Lukas's booth. The next day the old man gives him a videotape containing his testimony from the concentration camps. Watching the tape, Lukas becomes captivated, not less so when he spots the old man's obituary in the newspaper, and decides to attend the funeral. He is confronted by Mira (Rachel Miner), a young medical student, for attending a funeral without knowing the deceased. They argue. Lukas shows her the witness tape.
