The Last Word (Bulgarian: Последната дума, translit. Poslednata duma) is a 1973 Bulgarian drama film directed by Binka Zhelyazkova. It was entered into the 1974 Cannes Film Festival.

Synopsis

En Bulgarie, six femmes sont faites prisonnières à cause de leur engagement contre le fascisme. Elles supportent sans broncher les humiliations qu'on leur inflige en attendant leur exécution.

Based in the days of the Bulgarian Resistance during Second World War the film deals with a young anti-fascist underground group combat operating in Sofia. Veska and Dimo are central characters. Their love affair ends because they are apprehended by the police and jailed. Veska is tortured to death and Dimo is burnt alive cruelly. The little photographer girl, Tzveteto, also meets with a violent death, as do all other members of the group. Soon afterwards another group of courageous youth is being formed. Some of them will perhaps not live to enjoy their youth.

L'histoire commence par une grave désillusion vécue par une jeune fille lors de son bal d'adieu à la sortie de l'école. Apostol, architecte quadragénaire, rencontre par hasard Bella à une piscine le soir de sa remise de diplômes. L'écart d'âge est important, mais Bella tombe sous le coup de son intelligence, de ses amis, de son style de vie et du respect que tout le monde à pour elle. Boyan est un acteur et imitateur humoristique. Les relations complexes entre les trois personnages oscillent entre amitié et amour et impliquent certains motifs professionnels.

Wide receiver Marvin "Shake" Tiller and running back Billy Clyde Puckett are football buddies who play for a Miami pro team owned by Big Ed Bookman (Preston). Barbara Jane is not a follower of B.E.A.T., and Shake is warned by his leader Bismark that "mixed marriages don't work.
