The remake was first shown on December 26, 2003 in the U.K. and premiered on U.S. television on May 26, 2004. It starred Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close, and was directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. It was filmed on location at Spiš Castle in eastern Slovakia.
Andrew Howard, John Light, and Rafe Spall played the warring brothers. Jonathan Rhys Meyers played the king of France and Julia Vysotskaya, his sister and Henry's mistress, Princess Alais.
Synopsis
Le roi Henry II garde sa femme, Eleanor, enfermée dans les tours à cause de ses fréquentes tentatives de le renverser. Une fois Eleanor hors d'état de nuire, il peut avoir ses liaisons avec sa jeune maîtresse. Il va sans dire que la reine n'est pas contente, bien qu'elle ait encore de l'affection pour le roi. Travaillant par l'intermédiaire de ses fils, elle complote la mort du roi et l'accession au trône de son deuxième fils préféré, Richard. Le plus jeune fils, John, un bouffon en surpoids et le seul fils à avoir l'affection de son père est le choix du roi après la mort de son premier fils, le jeune Henry. Mais John est également trop avide de pouvoir et est prêt à comploter la mort de son père avec son frère cadet, Geoffrey et le jeune roi de France, Phillip. Geoffrey, bien sûr, voit la faiblesse de son jeune frère et considère cette voie comme son chemin vers le pouvoir. De toute évidence, des intrigues politiques et judiciaires s'ensuivent.Actors
