The Little Prince (French: Le Petit Prince) is a 2015 English-language French 3D stop motion and computer-animated fantasy film directed by Mark Osborne. Irena Brignull wrote the script based on the 1943 novel of the same name by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. As the first animated feature film adaptation of The Little Prince, the film uses stop motion animation for the novel's story and computer animation for an additional frame narrative.

The film stars the voices of Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, James Franco, Benicio del Toro, Ricky Gervais, Bud Cort, Paul Giamatti, Albert Brooks and Mackenzie Foy. It had its world premiere on 22 May 2015 at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in an out-of-competition screening, followed by a wide theatrical release in France on 29 July 2015 by Paramount Pictures. The film has earned $65.2 million on a $77.5 million budget.

Synopsis

This movie is not a straight adaptation of Saint-Exupéry's novel. Rather, elements from the novel are woven into an original narrative about a young girl who is dealing with her pushy Mother who wants her to grow up too fast.

Gil Pender, a successful but creatively unfulfilled Hollywood screenwriter, and his fiancée, Inez, are in Paris, vacationing with Inez's wealthy, conservative parents. Gil is struggling to finish his first novel, centered on a man who works in a nostalgia shop. Inez dismisses his ambition as a romantic daydream and encourages him to stick with lucrative screenwriting. Gil is considering moving to Paris (which he notes, much to the dismay of his fiancée, is at its most beautiful in the rain). Inez is intent on living in Malibu. By chance, they are joined by Inez's friend Paul who is described as both pedantic and a pseudo-intellectual, and who speaks with great authority but questionable accuracy on the history and art of Paris. Paul contradicts a tour guide at the Rodin Museum, and insists that his knowledge of Rodin's relationships is more accurate than that of the tour guide. Inez admires him; Gil finds him insufferable.
