Synopsis
Un haut fonctionnaire de la cour impériale rentre pour annoncer à sa femme qu'il compte marier leur fille unique, Chu Ying-tai, à un des héritiers de la famille Ma. Afin d'assurer ce mariage, il fait passer à cette dernière un examen sur l'art, mais il comprend très vite que sa fille est incapable de jouer de la lyre, de rédiger ou de réciter un poème. La mère de Ying-tai décide alors de l'envoyer au collège Sung Yee afin de parfaire son éducation, pendant trois ans, mais pour ce faire, la fille doit se travestir en garçon pour apprendre dans ce collège non-mixte. Après avoir été reçue par la directrice de l'école, elle rejoint la bibliothèque, où elle s'apprête à dormir mais elle fait la rencontre du jeune Liang Shan-po qui ignore que Ying-tai est une fille.Actors

Peace-keeping immortals living in clans inhabit a mythical mountain range called Zu, which exists between Heaven and Earth. Ning Choi-san is a timid debt collector whose job requires him to travel to rural areas. He arrives at a town but is forced to seek shelter in a deserted temple in the forest on the outskirts because he ran out of money due to his inability to collect the debts as initially planned. That night in the temple, Ning meets a beautiful and alluring young maiden called Nip Siu-sin and falls in love with her. However, when he later recalls that night's events the next day, he becomes increasingly fearful and superstitious because a Taoist mystic told him that the people he saw at the temple were ghosts. Liliom Zadowski is a barker at Madame Muscat's carousel. A rival barker named Hollinger tries to get Liliom in trouble by telling the jealous Mme. Muscat, who is having an affair with Liliom, that Liliom flirts with his customers behind her back. When Mme. Muscat insults Liliom's female customers Julie and Marie, Liliom comes to their defense, which leads to Mme. Muscat firing Liliom. Liliom makes a date with Julie and Marie and leaves the carousel. When he meets the girls later, Liliom tells them that he intends to only take one of them out, which leads to Liliom going only with Julie. Julie is infatuated with Liliom and they move in together in a run-down trailer. Julie works in a photo studio while Liliom loafs, drinks and gets into violent arguments with Julie.

Two snake spirits have been training for many centuries to take human form and experience the love, freedom and wisdom that is supposedly only available to humans.
