Add to a movie listThe Other End of the Line is a romantic comedy film released in 2008 starring Jesse Metcalfe, Shriya Saran and Anupam Kher. James Dodson directed the project. The film is based on an employee at an Indian call-center who travels to San Francisco to be with a guy she falls for over the phone. The tagline is "Two countries. Two cultures. One chance at love."
It is the first combination between the Indian powerhouse production house, Adlabs with their American counterpart MGM. The film was co-produced by the Indian-American producer Ashok Amritraj and Patrick Aiello.It was a low-budget film,which reportedly cost $2.5 million.
Filming began in October 2007 in Mumbai, and continued in San Francisco during 2008. The film was released on October 31, 2008.
Synopsis
Priya Sethi (Shriya Saran) indulges her infatuation with American culture by working nights (while Americans are at work, on the other side of the world) at the Citi One Bank Card call center in Mumbai, India. Speaking in a perfect American English accent, she tells her customers her name is Jennifer David and a native of San Francisco. Her conservative father Rajeev (Anupam Kher) is unhappy that she is so eager to forsake her own culture for another, but will be pleased when she goes through with her arranged marriage to wealthy but childishly dull Vikram.Actors

Kavya, (Alia Bhatt) who’s engaged to an NRI American doctor Angad (Siddharth Shukla), decides to go to Delhi to buy an expensive designer bridal dress for her wedding, after her father refuses to get her the costly designer dress. She meets Humpty Sharma (Varun Dhawan) in Delhi, who falls in love with her. Humpty, with the help of his friends, Shonty and Poplu, chases Kavya, but she’s not interested. She, however, befriends him. Kavya confides in Humpty that her friend in Delhi, Gurpreet, was blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend, who had secretly filmed a sex sequence of the two. Humpty stumbles upon the idea of victimizing Gurpreet’s ex that would also avenge Gurpreet, and gather the money for the wedding dress for Kavya. They manage to get some money, but Kavya isn’t happy about the way that money is obtained. However, the ensuing adventures make Kavya fall for Humpty, and the night before she’s supposed to return home to Ambala, they sleep together.They had sex under a black sheet fully nude. Humpty took kavya's virginity. When Humpty asks her if she loves him, she says she won’t go against the wishes of her father, who has arranged her marriage with an NRI. In order to help Humpty get the money for Kavya’s dress, Humpty’s father and friends chip in. Kavya reluctantly accepts the money and leaves Delhi.

The movie begins with Kate (Brittany Snow) discussing her mother Lori's (Jenny McCarthy) series of bad relationships which always causes the family to move to a new town. Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra is the 18-year-old daughter of Punjabi Sikh Indians from Hounslow in west London. Jess is infatuated with football but her parents have forbidden her to play because she is a girl. She plays in the park sometimes with her good friend Tony, and his buddies, where her skills draw the attention of Juliette "Jules" Paxton, who plays for the women's team of the local club, the fictional Hounslow Harriers. Their coach, Joe, is impressed with her play and puts her on the team. Jess pretends to have a job to play with the team and Jules and Jess become best friends, despite the fact that both are attracted to Joe. Jess enlists her sister Pinky to cover for her when the team travels to Germany for a big match, but everything unravels when Jules spies Joe and Jess almost kiss, causing a breach between them, and Jess's parents find out and forbid her to continue. Meanwhile, Jules's mother wrongly thinks Jules is a lesbian and the girls' spat is a lovers' quarrel. Jess's parents are confronted by a similar accusation before Jess reveals the truth about her attraction to Joe. While the elder Bhamras are distracted by the elaborate preparations for Pinky's upcoming wedding, Jess continues to play and the Hounslow Harriers make their way towards the top of the league. Joe encourages Jess to come clean with her parents and eventually approaches Mr. Bhamra to explain she has a chance to win a prestigious scholarship, but Mr. Bhamra refuses to believe it. Jess and Jules must sort their differences, make peace with their parents, and overcome cultural prejudice to win the league championship, and earn scholarships to Santa Clara University in California.
