Add to a movie listDer Postmeister (English: The Postmaster or The Stationmaster) is a 1940 German film directed by Gustav Ucicky. Released during the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, it depicts Russians in a sympathetic light, unlike their depiction in such films as Friesennot before or GPU after.
It was based on The Station Master, a short story from The Belkin Tales series by Alexander Pushkin. It was remade in 1955 as Dunja.
At the Venice Film Festival, it won the Mussolini Cup for best foreign film.
Synopsis
The daughter of a stationmaster falls in love with a cavalry captain. He persuades her to run away with him to St. Petersburg, but she realizes there that he never intended to marry her.Actors

Le Levantin Thomas Zezi passe un an et demi en prison pour contrebande. Il est libéré et revient chez lui. La France pendant la guerre de Cent Ans. Les Français risquent de perdre la guerre depuis 92 ans contre l'Angleterre et des ennemis intérieurs. Seule la ville d'Orléans résiste bien encore ; c'est ici que se trouve le roi de France Charles VII. Pour discuter de conditions de paix acceptables, le roi envoie son émissaire Maillezais dans le camp ennemi, chez John Talbot et son allié Philippe III de Bourgogne. Mais Talbot refuse le compromis ; il préfère se préparer à la bataille finale. Son mépris est tel que, devant Maillezais, il jette les armes de sa famille d'origine française.

In the Wołyń Voivodeship in eastern Poland, the German minority is oppressed by the Polish majority. The physician Dr. Thomas does not have any hospital available and his daughter Marie, who teaches at a German school, and needs an important operation, watches when her school is disseized by Polish authorities and demolished by an angry mob. Dr. Thomas protests to the mayor, noting the constitutionally guaranteed minority rights; however his protest falls on deaf ears. Marie and her fiancé, Dr. Fritz Mutius, drive to the provincial capital, in order to put their protest to the Voivode (governor), but they are not even received there either. Deciding to stay in the capital in order to call on the court the next day, that evening they go to the cinema. They are accompanied there by her friend Karl Michalek, who has been pressed into service by the Polish Armed Forces. When they refuse to sing the Polish national anthem Mazurek Dąbrowskiego with the rest of the audience, Fritz gets grievously hurt by the furious Polish crowd. Marie tries to take her betrothed to a hospital, but he is refused admission and succumbs to his injuries.

Pendant l'Empire russe. La jeune danseuse Nastasia Daschenko vit dans la chambre 217 du prestigieux Savoy Hotel à Moscou. Schuvalov a dû passer de nombreuses années dans un camp sibérien pour son meurtre. Nastasia est maintenant mariée pour la deuxième fois et veut se débarrasser de son mari Fedor Daschenko, un commerçant dont elle a adopté le nom. Le divorce est déjà en cours. Son cœur appartient à un nouvel homme : Andrei Volodkin. Il est maître d'hôtel à l'hôtel Savoy et responsable de l'étage de Nastasia. Il est, comme on dit, un "gars entier". Il aime se regrouper avec beaucoup de femmes et ne veut en aucun cas s’engager avec qui que ce soit. Andrei est aussi lié avec Anna Orlowa, la gardienne, plus âgée. Pour lui, c'est une aventure, alors qu'Anna voit les choses différemment : elle se voit comme son épouse et espère pouvoir le lier avec ses propres atouts. Mais Andrei s'est déjà tourné vers une nouvelle femme, la femme de chambre Daria Plagina. C'est le point de départ de l'histoire.

Marie (Mizzi), a cashier in the tunnel of love Zum Walfisch on the Prater in Vienna, and Baron Christian von B. fall in love, but their relationship is disrupted by the wilful involvement of the dancer Valette, who always wears a mask.
