The Roaring Fifties (German:Die wilden Fünfziger ) is a 1983 German comedy film directed by Peter Zadek and starring Juraj Kukura, Boy Gobert and Peter Kern. It is based on the novel Hurra, wir leben noch by Johannes Mario Simmel. It is set around the German Wirtschaftswunder economic miracle of the 1950s, with the title alluding to the Roaring Twenties.

Synopsis

La Seconde Guerre mondiale est finie. Jakob Formann, ancien prisonnier de guerre, rentre chez lui. À Linz, il trouve du travail comme interprète pour l'armée américaine. Il se procure 40 000 œufs auprès des Américains et fonde un élevage de poulets. La ferme qu'il acquiert a appartenu à Heinrich Himmler. Le miracle économique de Jakob Formann commence. Il devient un homme d'affaires de la jeune République fédérale. Il acquiert des sociétés de construction et d'édition. Formann mène une vie de luxe. Mais le premier choc pétrolier de 1973 met fin à l'ascension du petit-bourgeois. Formann vend sa firme à un consortium de banques. Mais il n'est pas malheureux. Il prend sa retraite en compagnie de sa compagne Julia.

A young Hungarian student (Buchholz) and a 17-year-old French girl, Anne-Claire (Schneider) meet in a park in Paris. She calls him "Monpti" (mon p'tit, "my little one"). They fall in love and enjoy a happy time. Anne-Claire claims to come from a wealthy family, but Monpti finds out that she actually comes from poor circumstances. Angered at having been deceived by Anne-Claire, he tells her off on the street and leaves her standing there. As she runs after his taxi, she is hit by another car. Lying in the hospital, Monpti promises he will marry her, but Anne-Claire dies a little while later from her injuries.

German tourist Jasmin Münchgstettner (Sägebrecht) from Rosenheim and her husband fight whilst they are driving across the desert. Le transformiste Victor vient de quitter son appartement parisien. Après une nuit sur un banc d'un parc, il a une voix rauque et rate une audition. Il n'a plus d'argent et ne peut plus se servir de sa voix pour une audition pour une publicité. À l'audition, est recalée aussi la jeune Erika qui commence tout juste sa carrière. Ils se retrouvent tous les deux à vendre des saucisses, les deux chanteurs décident d'unir leurs forces : le temps d'une soirée, Erika se ferait passer pour Viktor en faisant semblant d'être un homme qui se déguise en femme. La prestation est un grand succès. On leur propose un engagement dans un véritable vaudeville parisien. Ils rencontrent le grand directeur Jean Perrot. Perrot emmène Erika, qui se fait passer pour Erich, dans un bar. Ils fument et boivent ensemble, mais Erika perd sa carte d'identité ; Perrot découvre alors qu'Erich est en fait une femme.

Le propriétaire terrien Philipp Klapproth, qui finance les études de médecine de son neveu Peter Klapproth, reçoit un jour une lettre dans laquelle il demande 20 000 marks à son oncle. Peter veut, écrit-il, investir cet argent dans un hôpital psychiatrique. En vérité, le neveu a des plans très différents : il ne peut ni voir le sang, ni n'a jamais étudié la médecine ; au lieu de cela, lui et son ami musicien Tommy consacrent leurs vies à leur groupe. Avec l'argent de l'oncle, rien ne s'opposerait à avoir leur propre local de répétition.
