Synopsis

On the Valentine's Day of 1997, in a small town, a cave-in on the north side of a Hanninger mine trapped six miners. Six days later, rescue teams found five dead miners and the comatose Harry Warden (Richard John Walters), who survived by killing the other miners with a pickaxe, allowing himself to breathe. In a flashback, horror author Franklin "Frankie" Scarlatti tells a story on the way to his hometown, Willowpoint Falls. On Halloween 1962, Frankie (Lukas Haas)—then 9 years old—is tricked by school jokesters Donald (Jared Rushton) and Louie (Gregory Levinson) and ends up locked in the school's cloakroom after the last school bell has rung. Trapped well after dark, he witnesses the ghostly scene of a brutal attack of a red-haired little girl. Suddenly, he is attacked and strangled by a dark figure. 18 septembre 2017. Theresa « Tree » Gelbman, une étudiante membre de la sororité Kappa, se réveille le jour de son anniversaire dans la chambre de Carter Davis, un étudiant l'ayant aidé après son énorme cuite de la nuit dernière. Tree, assez superficielle, repousse Carter, refuse les appels de son père, couche avec son professeur, le docteur marié Gregory Butler, et se comporte mal avec sa colocataire, l'infirmière Lori Spengler, même quand cette dernière essaye de lui faire une surprise pour son anniversaire. Dans la soirée, Tree se rend à une fête organisée plus loin dans le campus. Sur le chemin, elle est attaquée et violemment assassinée par un homme portant le masque de bébé de la mascotte de l'université. Tree se réveille aussitôt dans la chambre de Carter et se rend compte bientôt qu'elle est en train de revivre la même journée. Après s'être faite assassiner une seconde fois, Tree comprend qu'elle est bloquée dans une boucle temporelle.

Los Angeles is being terrorized by a masked serial killer whose modus operandi is to break into stores after hours, murder the workers, and take the surveillance tapes so he can use them to relive his crimes. At Steve's liquor store (the main door to which has been boarded up due to an incident with a homeless man) the employees, customers, and a deliveryman named Morty discuss the killer, the $500,000 being offered as a reward for his capture, and how they would kill him, the mentioned methods being eye gouging, exsanguination in plastic wrap, sawing, and decapitation. After the store closes, Steve has a clerk named Donny, and two regulars (a prostitute named Jess, and a phone sex worker named Mona) stay to play cards in the upstairs apartment as a means of keeping Steve's nephew Jimmy (an addict going through drug withdrawal) occupied. Unbeknownst to the quintet, the Convenience Store Killer has chosen them as his next victims, cutting the homeless man (who resides in a nearby alley) in half before sneaking into the building.

Madison Penrose's sweet sixteen is coming up. She wants to have her birthday party at the Roller Dome, a once popular roller skating rink with a violent history to match. She and her parents go so far as to hire a party planner (Chad McKnight). A few days before the party, while alone in the Roller Dome, he hears a strange noise and asks if anybody is there. The scene then flashes back to 1999, where Charlie Rotter (Alex Van) is the owner and entertainer of the Roller Dome. (He is known as "Lord of the Rink.") One day, he is humiliated by an ungrateful teenage boy named Craig (Damien Haas), who slaps the cake out of Rotter's hands and rips his mask off in front of everybody, including his six-year-old daughter, Skye (Lauren Eichner).
