The Voice of Bugle Ann is a 1936 film directed by Richard Thorpe, based on a novel of the same title by MacKinlay Kantor.

Synopsis

Dans les monts Ozark au Missouri, les fermiers chassent le renard avec des chiens qu'ils élèvent eux-mêmes. Spring Davis, l'un d'entre eux, aime particulièrement ses chiens, en particulier Molly, et quand cette chienne meurt en donnant naissance à une portée de chiots, Spring favorise Miss Ann, l'avorton de la portée». En grandissant, Ann développe une rare "voix de clairon", ce qui la fait surnommer "Bugle Ann". Lors de sa première nuit de chasse, Ann se comporte comme une championne, mais la soirée est gâchée par la découverte d'une clôture en barbelés posée par le voisin, Jacob Terry, dans le but d'élever des moutons. Spring et Terry se disputent à propos de cette clôture et Terry menace de tirer sur tout chien qui viendrait sur sa propriété. Malgré l'animosité qui existe entre leurs pères respectfs, Benjy, le fils de Spring, et Camden, la fille de Terry, sont amoureux l'un de l'autre.

Ex-opera singer Helen Lorfield Winter (Jeanette MacDonald) rents a house in the small town of Brushy Gap, in the hills not too far from the Smokies, Blue Ridge, and Atlanta Georgia with her dog, Lassie, after the tragic death of her son. There she befriends Jerry, a young orphan (Claude Jarman Jr.). Growing attached to Jerry, but not wanting children so soon after the death of her own son, Helen leaves Brushy Gap to resume her singing career. While she is away, Jerry is caught in heavy rain returning Lassie home and develops pneumonia. Helen returns to Brushy Gap to find the owner of the house, Thomas Chandler (Lloyd Nolan), nursing Jerry back to health. Soon after Jerry has recovered, the orphanage catches on fire, and Lassie and Tom both rescue Jerry from the blaze. Helen then decides to adopt Jerry and remain in Brushy Gap.

Defense attorney Dwight Bradley Masen (Walter Pidgeon) is successful in seeking the acquittal of a young man, Rudi Walchek (Keefe Brasselle), accused of knifing to death the 19-year-old son of a local locksmith, but when Rudi lets a comment slip after the trial, Masen realizes he has defended a guilty man. Construction worker Vince Everett (Elvis) accidentally kills a drunken and belligerent man in a barroom brawl. He is sentenced to between one and ten years in the state penitentiary for manslaughter. His new cellmate, washed-up country singer Hunk Houghton (Shaughnessy), starts teaching Vince to play the guitar after hearing Vince sing and strum Hunk's guitar. Hunk then convinces Vince to participate in an upcoming inmate show, which is broadcast on nationwide television. Vince receives numerous fan letters as a result; but out of apparent jealousy, Hunk ensures they are not delivered to Vince. Hunk then convinces Vince to sign a "contract" to become equal partners in his act. Meanwhile, during an inmate riot in the mess hall, a guard shoves Vince, who retaliates by striking the guard. As a result, the warden orders Vince to be lashed with a whip. Afterwards, it was discovered that Hunk attempted to bribe the guards to drop the punishment, but to no avail.

De plus Helga est incapable de supporter sa honte et se jette du haut d'une tour. Oleg et Éric se disputent à propos du sort de Samia, mais ils sont interrompus par l'arrivée des Tartares. Oleg et Burandai trouvent la mort dans la bataille qui s'ensuit et la forteresse viking est détruite par un incendie. Éric et Samia arrivent à s'échapper et trouvent refuge sur un navire qui les conduit dans le Grand Nord.
