Add to a movie listWiedźmin (The Hexer or The Witcher in English) is a 2001 fantasy film by director Marek Brodzki, starring Michał Żebrowski as main character Geralt of Rivia. The story is based on the books and stories of The Witcher written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The film is essentially the then-unreleased TV series chopped into about 2 hours, and received very poor reviews from both fans and critics. Sapkowski himself in several interviews laconically expressed his negative opinion about the film: "I can answer only with a single word, an obscene, albeit a short one." "I am a Polish Catholic, it is Lent now; I cannot utter swear words."
The 13-episode TV series came out the following year. The series was much more coherent than the confusing film, but was still considered a failure mostly due to the film's already bad reputation and due to vast changes to the source material. However, critics praised the acting and music by Grzegorz Ciechowski.

After the Bosnian War, Bosnia and Herzegovina is occupied by the NATO-led (IFOR) Implementation Force. In February 1996, a unit of Polish IFOR troops detains and releases three foreign mercenaries in Srebrenica, before they can be executed by a Bosnian mob. The Polish unit is led by Major Edward "Edek" Keller (Boguslaw Linda). Soon later, Keller is under investigation for insubordination and for clashes with the Bosnian militia and foreign mercenaries. The investigation is led by two arriving officers - Lieutenant Czacki (Olaf Lubaszenko) and Major Czesław Kusz (Tadeusz Huk), who will replaced Keller as the commanding officer of the battalion on 1 March. The investigation comes at a sensitive time for Polish forces, as the Polish government tries to become a member of NATO. Keller maintains command of the unit, until his commission ends.

The story begins at a concert of punk group "City Death". There is a crowd of young people listening to the loud music and the group frontman/singer, Artur (Zbigniew Zamachowski). A man making his way through the crowd, Jerzy (Jerzy Stuhr), waves urgently to Artur, who is subsequently revealed as Jerzy's older brother. Jerzy informs Artur that their father Czesław "Root" Janicki has died. The brothers, whose relationship with their father was distant and strained, handle the funeral proceedings with ambivalence.

The story is set in Ukrainian lands of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland of the 17th century during the Khmelnytsky Uprising 1648-51. The film is set in Russia during the Time of Troubles, a period of civil disorder, famine and Polish invasion that followed the fall of the Rurik dynasty, which had ruled Russia in various capacities from 862 to 1598. The film begins with five children (Robert, Cyril, Jane, Anthea and The Lamb), that let their father go to the fight in World War I. That's in 1914, but the children are asked to stay at their uncle's house with his son, Horace. While exploring the house, Robert finds a locked door in the Greenhouse and brings the other children. They manage to open the door and discover a creature called It, a sand fairy. They wish to make the house tidy without having to do the work. When they come back, they see dozens of copies of themselves doing the chores and wrecking the house in the attempt.
