The film is inspired by Welch's childhood love of football, and helped to establish her as a screenwriter. It was released on 17 November 1983 and featured Zoë Nathenson, Sara Sugarman and Cathy Murphy in leading roles.
Synopsis
The film is about a group of girls growing up in 1960-61 London, who develop an interest in football and support for Tottenham Hotspur, which became the first English team in the 20th century to win both the English league and the FA Cup "double". Twenty years later, one of the girls is trying to make a career as a football journalist and is offered a lift home by her childhood hero Danny Blanchflower. The majority of the film is set during the fateful 1960-1961 season and tells of the girls' obsession with Spurs.Actors

Set in "Barrytown", a fictitious working-class quarter of Dublin. Brendan "Bimbo" Reeves gets laid off from his job as a baker. With his redundancy cheque, he buys a van and sells fish and chips with his best mate, Larry. Due, in part, to Ireland's surprising success at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, their business starts off well. But the relationship between the two friends soon becomes strained as Bimbo and his wife, Maggie behave more and more like typical bosses. Larry believes that Maggie is the cause of the strained friendship, as he thinks she is pushing Bimbo away from him. The van is closed down because of poor hygiene by health inspector, Des O'Callaghan. Bimbo thinks that Larry told the Health Board about the van, leading to a fight between the two. Larry quits the job, despite Bimbo's best efforts to get him back. Bimbo then drives the van into the sea, so as to win his friendship with Larry back.

A la fin du XIXe siècle, Konrad Koch, un professeur d'anglais, revient d'un séjour en Grande-Bretagne. Il vient de découvrir un nouveau sport appelé le football. A son arrivée à Brunswick en Allemagne, il décide de faire découvrir aux élèves de son école ce «jeu de pied barbare». Most of the characters in the film are not named. A girl disguises herself as a boy to go attend the 2006 World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Bahrain. She travels by bus with a group of male fans, some of whom notice her gender, but do not tell anyone. At the stadium, she persuades a reluctant ticket tout to sell her a ticket; he only agrees to do so at an inflated price. The girl tries to slip through security, but she is spotted and arrested. She is put in a holding pen on the stadium roof with several other women who have also been caught; the pen is frustratingly close to a window onto the match, but the women are at the wrong angle to see it.
