Synopsis
Liz et Ellie McAdams ne sont que des enfants lorsque leur maman est emportée par une tornade. Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, Liz présente la météo sur une chaîne de télévision locale. For many centuries, the phi song neng (vampires who have vowed never to drink human blood) have lived among the villages of the Far East. One day over 800 years ago, a young human warlord named Niran fell in love with one of the song neng, a woman named Sang. Niran wanted Sang for his own, so he killed her husband and son. In her pain and rage, Sang attacked and bit Niran during a Songkran (New Year) solar eclipse, turning him into a vampire. From Niran's bloodline have come many jai tham (vampires who drink human blood and kill for pleasure). Only Sang can end the jai tham's nightly attacks on humans. Doing so, however, will end the entire bloodline and turn every vampire, song neng as well as jai tham, into mere mortals again. Since the coming Songkran festival will feature the first solar eclipse in 800 years, Sang intends to kill herself by exposing herself to the sun's rays at the end of the eclipse and thus wipe out all the vampires in Thailand.

Rachel Maleman (Meredith Monroe) is an event planner at a hotel in Philadelphia. She used to date her co-worker John Anderson (Brett Watson), however, he cheated on her. She started online dating and met Craig Miller (Jason Gray-Stanford), a wealthy businessman who runs his mother's real estate company. After seeing John and Rachel go out for lunch together, Craig's brother, Ryan (Damon Runyan) is sent to kill John, because of Craig's jealousy. A private investigator named Jerry Berman (Bill Lake) is hired by the father of one of Craig's ex-girlfriends, named Dominique (Allison Brennan), who went missing. She was actually murdered by Craig when she told him that she was pregnant. Another girl that Craig dated, named Melissa (Sophie Gendron) was assaulted by Craig, in which he paid her to keep quiet about the incident. Now, after dating Rachel for a while with John out of the picture, Craig proposes to her. Upon wedding dress shopping, Rachel and her friend and co-worker Laura (Krista Morin) see Craig stop by at the boutique. He then picks out a dress that both Rachel and Laura do not approve of, but purchases it anyway. Craig asks his fiancee to quit her job at the hotel and work at his house, by starting her own event planning business, just so that he could spend more time with her. After he belittled her job and explained about his past relationships, this caused her to have concern and re-think about getting married. Throughout the film, Craig is revealed to be more controlling and obsessive. He kidnaps his fiancee and abandons their dog, Cody, at the side of the road. Set in 1979, the film focuses on a Seattleite couple, police officer and former park ranger Roger Lewis (Bancroft), and 22-year-old waitress Denise Harris (Milano). They are invited by businessman Wylie Bennett (Fraser) to Alaska to head out to the fictional wilderness of Surprise Bay and find a goldmine. If they are successful in retrieving gold, they are awarded 10% of the profit. Denise is hesitant to travel into the wilderness, though blindly follows her boyfriend, who regards the exploring as a great adventure.
