It was produced as part of the BBC Schools SCENE series, and intended for young adults. It confronted the Thatcherite government's attempt to ban gay sex education in schools via the controversial (and since repealed) section 28 legislation.[1]. Given this backdrop, the BBC opted not to show it during the day and it was screened at night, even though it was originally created for a school audience.
Synopsis
The film centres on the life of Phil, a fun loving student in his final year at British secondary school. He is currently going steady with girlfriend Sharon, whose best friend Vera (an early role for Kathy Burke) just happens to have the hots for his best mate Matthew. However, Matthew is gay, and dropped out of school the previous year as a means of escaping the abuse of the classroom, only for the discovery of his collection of soft-core gay porn to cause him problems at home as well. Matthew is an ardent swimmer - an opportunity for the film to immediately use and confront an obvious stereotype.Actors

Caramel revolves around the intersecting lives of five Lebanese women. Layale (Nadine Labaki) works in a beauty salon in Beirut along with two other women, Nisrine (Yasmine Al Masri) and Rima (Joanna Moukarzel). Each one has a problem: Layale is stuck in a dead-end relationship with a married man; Nisrine is no longer a virgin but is set to be married, and in her conservative family pre-marital sex is not accepted; Rima is attracted to women; Jamale (Gisèle Aouad), a regular customer and wannabe actress, is worried about getting old; Rose (Sihame Haddad), a tailoress with a shop next to the salon, is an old woman who had devoted her life to taking care of her mentally unbalanced elder sister Lili (Aziza Semaan), but has found her first love. The film does not refer to any of the political problems or recent warfare that has troubled Lebanon. Rather, Labaki's tale paints everyday people with everyday problems.

In a prologue, young Gilda Bessé (Charlize Theron), the daughter of a French aristocrat and an emotionally unstable American mother, reluctantly is told the life line on her palm doesn't extend past the age of 34 by a fortune teller. Enfant, Bobby Morrow perd successivement son frère en 1967, sa mère en 1973 et son père en 1974. Il est recueilli par la famille de son camarade de classe Jonathan Glover. À la mort de Ned, le père de Jonathan, le trio se retrouve pour l'enterrement à Phoenix et Claire annonce qu'elle est enceinte. Sur le chemin du retour, elle achète une maison perdue dans la nature à Woodstock où ils s'installent tous les trois. Tandis que Claire élève sa fille Rebecca, Bobby et Jonathan ouvrent un café. Jonathan est atteint de la maladie de Kaposi, Claire vit mal l'intimité de Bobby et Jonathan. Finalement elle quitte la maison au bout du monde avec sa fille pour visiter sa mère à Philadelphie. Bobby et Jonathan comprennent qu'elle ne reviendra pas.
