Synopsis
Based on the horrific true story of the 1996 Vampire Killings in Florida, the film follows the police investigation of five Goth teenagers who claimed to be real-life vampires. They drank each other's blood and embraced the occult. But they were also ordinary, middle-class kids looking for an outlet for their angst and morbid curiosity. Somewhere along their road trip to New Orleans, their fantasy life became all too real. Now the police have two savagely beaten corpses on their hands... parents of the teenaged vampires. An earthquake releases a bunch of mutant cockroaches that can create fire by rubbing their cerci together. Eventually most of the bugs die because they cannot survive in the low air pressure on the Earth's surface, but a scientist Prof. James Parmiter (Dillman) keeps one alive in a pressure chamber. Three young local news reporters, Charlie, Milo, and Sarah, live in a small town, where they work at a local TV channel. The life in their town is boring and eventless, so the trio avidly searches for new, hot material. Soon they find an interesting story to report—a mysterious disappearance of a local family whose house they visit. The group finds several home videotapes there, and, looking through the usual family videos, the guys find something strange. In addition to family members on tapes, there briefly appears a mysterious faceless figure wearing a black business suit. Gradually, the guys understand that they have occasionally summoned a demon that now starts pursuing them. Its name is Slender, and it can be seen only via videocameras.

Some time after the events of The Ring, Samara Morgan's videotape has spread, as each person who sees the video makes a copy and shows it to someone else. A subculture has grown surrounding the video: people wait to see how close to the seven-day deadline they can get. When they grow too afraid to go on any longer, they show the tape to the next assigned person. During the interval, some create videos documenting their experiences to be posted to websites devoted to the videotape phenomenon. Groups that have watched the video are called "rings".

TV commercial producer Denise (Anita Skinner) emerges unscathed as the sole survivor of an airliner crash and feels as if she's about to be caught by something. Her doctor/boyfriend (Ken Johnson) is convinced that she's experiencing "survivor's syndrome" in which sole survivors experience guilt and either commit suicide or put themselves in dangerous situations. Denise also receives some ambiguous warnings from psychic ex-actress Carla (Caren Larkey) who predicted the crash. A series of strange sightings and encounters of zombie-like people escalates until it is apparent that something is trying to kill her as people around her start dying as well. Her skeptical boyfriend thinks Denise is going crazy until he finds out that a number of recently dead people - including one that Denise claims attacked her - were found with all of the blood in their bodies drained into their legs as if they had died standing upright.
