What a Man is a 2011 German comedy film directed by Matthias Schweighöfer. It was well received by German critics and also a success at the box office.

Synopsis

30-year-old Alex discovers that his girlfriend Carolin has an affair with their neighbour, photographer Jens, and is forced to move out of their shared flat. He moves in with his friend, animal welfare activist Nele who has a long-distance-relationship with her French boyfriend Etienne who lives in China. Alex tries to find out why his relationship with Carolin failed and what actually constitutes a man. Meanwhile he and Nele who were in love with each other since primary school fall in love again.

Ibo (Denis Moschitto) is a young Turkish-German man who is an aspiring filmmaker. A clash of cultures and pre-parental anxiety ensues after Ibo's German girlfriend, Titzi (Nora Tschirner), announces that she's pregnant. Ibo's father (Güven Kıraç) is upset at his son for wanting to start a family with a non-Turkish German woman while Titzi is upset at Ibo over his hesitance in taking on fatherly responsibilities. Other themes are the competition of a Turkish kebab restaurant and a Greek taverna, a gang trying to extort the owner of the kebab restaurant, Ibo's quest to make the first German Kung-Fu movie and the pursuit of both Titzi and her roommate at a prestigious drama academy.

Two years have passed since Henry, Katharina, Tristan and Magdalena have become a family. Everyday life has returned, yet chaos breaks out. Henry begins a career as a film producer. Furthermore he moves in with Henry after Katharina moves out. The two men who now carry responsibility for Magdalena and the baby are becoming increasingly overwhelmed. So they hire an attractive nanny that moves in with them. This threatens Henry's possibility at a second chance with Katharina. Meanwhile, Magdalena falls in love with a boy for the first time.
