What Price Glory is a 1926 American silent comedy-drama war film produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation and directed by Raoul Walsh. The film is based on the 1924 play What Price Glory by Maxwell Anderson and Laurence Stallings and was remade in 1952 as What Price Glory starring James Cagney. Malcolm Stuart Boylan, founder of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, was title writer on the silent Fox attraction.
Synopsis
Flagg and Quirt are veteran United States Marines sergeants whose rivalry dates back a number of years. Flagg is commissioned a Captain, he is in command of a company on the front lines of France during World War I. Sergeant Quirt is assigned to Flagg's unit as the senior non-commissioned officer. Flagg and Quirt quickly resume their rivalry, which this time takes its form over the affections of Charmaine, the daughter of the local innkeeper. However, Charmaine's desire for a husband and the reality of war give the two men a common cause.Actors

Cette même nuit, Rose tue Chan Lo en légitime défense, et elle embarque avec son jeune serviteur Fah Wong à bord du Java Maid. Son capitaine, Bull Brackett, tombe amoureux de Rose et lui donne sa cabine. Il accepte de débarquer Fah Wong à Seattle, et il y apprend que Rose est recherchée pour le meurtre de Chan Lo. Sœur Annie Alden, qui a embarqué à Seattle, est outrée par la moralité de Rose, mais lorsqu'Annie tombe malade, c'est Rose qui la soigne, impressionnée par la nature charitable de la jeune femme. Annie meurt au moment où l'inspecteur Jack Forrest embarque avec l'intention d'arrêter Rose. Celle-ci se fait alors passer pour Annie et elle arrive à convaincre avec l'aide de Bull que la morte est bien "Frisco Doll". Arrivés en Alaska, Rose et Jack commencent à s'apprécier mais un jour il entend une conversation entre elle et Bull qui lui fait comprendre la situation réelle.

In the waning days of World War II, the United States Navy cargo ship Reluctant and her crew are stationed in the "backwater" areas of the Pacific Ocean. The executive officer/cargo chief, Lieutenant Junior Grade Douglas A. "Doug" Roberts (Henry Fonda), tries to shield the dispirited crew from the harsh and unpopular captain, Lieutenant Commander Morton (James Cagney). Eager to join the fighting, Roberts repeatedly requests a transfer. Morton is forced by regulation to forward his requests, but refuses to endorse them, which means they are always rejected. Roberts shares quarters with Ensign Frank Thurlowe Pulver (Jack Lemmon). Pulver spends most of his time idling in his bunk and avoids the captain at all costs, so much so that Morton is actually unaware that the ensign is even part of the crew.

Upon the United States entry into World War I, the first American units to arrive at the front in France are veteran Marine companies, one of which is commanded by captain Flagg, along with his Lieutenants, Moore and Aldrich. Flagg has developed a romantic relationship with the daughter of the local innkeeper, Charmaine, and resumes their relationship after returning from the front. However, he lies to her and tells her he is married when she wants to come with him on his leave to Paris. Replacements arrive and their lack of discipline and knowledge infuriate the Captain. But he is expecting the arrival of a new top sergeant, who he hopes will be able to train them properly. However, when the sergeant arrives, it is Quirt, Captain Flagg's long time rival, a rivalry which quickly re-ignites.
