Synopsis

Tokiko, une céramiste renommée, et son mari rencontrent Haruka, une fugueuse adolescente, et l'emmènent chez eux, où Tokiko lui apprend la céramique. Quand le mari de Tokiko meurt, Haruka promet de rester avec son professeur et de faire tout ce qu’elle demande. Elles développent une relation lesbienne mais Tokiko noie son chagrin dans l’alcool et a de sérieuses rencontres sexuelles sans signification avec une variété d’hommes alors que Haruka peut les entendre dans une autre pièce.

Yoshimi Matsubara (松原 淑美 Matsubara Yoshimi; Hitomi Kuroki), in the midst of a divorce, moves to a run-down apartment with her daughter, Ikuko (松原 郁子 Matsubara Ikuko; Rio Kanno). She enrolls her daughter in a nearby kindergarten and in order to win custody of her daughter, starts working as a proofreader, a job she held years ago before she was married. The ceiling of the apartment has a leak, which worsens on a daily basis. Matsubara complains to the janitor of the apartment, an old man, but the janitor does nothing to fix the leak. She then tries to go to the floor just above her apartment to find out the root of the leak, and discovers that the apartment is locked.

In 1944 in the Republic of Salò, the Fascist-occupied portion of Italy, four wealthy men of power, the Duke, the Bishop, the Magistrate, and the President, agree to marry each other's daughters as the first step in a debauched ritual. They recruit four teenage boys to act as guards and four young soldiers (called "studs", "cockmongers", or "fuckers"), who are chosen because of their big penises. They then kidnap nine young men and nine young women and take them to a palace near Salò.
