World's Finest is a fan film directed by Sandy Collora. It works as a trailer to a movie that does not exist: the long-awaited cinematic team-up of Superman and Batman. While Superman and Batman have appeared together often in comic books and in animation (notably Super Friends). This fan film was, at the time, the first time that the characters have been on the screen at the same time in live action until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was released twelve years later. The title refers to a former famous comic series, featuring Batman and Superman working together in every issue.

The trailer features common themes from the comics, such as Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent meeting each other and feuding over Lois Lane's affection. In addition, the trailer features the villains Lex Luthor and Two-Face.

The trailer used Los Angeles, California, to portray the city of Metropolis. As an homage to the 1952 TV series Adventures of Superman, the Los Angeles City Hall was filmed as the Daily Planet building.

While no cohesive plot is apparent from the vignette style of the trailer, it can be pieced together that Batman has been murdered, and his killer remains at large. Dick Grayson, long since retired from his superhero days and married to Barbara Gordon with a child, decides to resume his crime-fighting days as Robin; Remarkably, Grayson does not take up the Nightwing identity. The filmmakers said they chose this because many people outside the comic book community are unfamiliar with Nightwing and they wanted to appeal to a wider audience.

At the end of the Korean War, United States Air Force pilot Hal Jordan (David Boreanaz) and his wingman, Kyle "Ace" Morgan (John Heard), are attacked by enemy pilots. Hal is shot down, ejects to safety and is forced to kill a North Korean soldier, causing him to be hospitalized for mental trauma. At Gotham Observatory, scientist Dr. Saul Erdel inadvertently teleports J'onn J'onzz (Miguel Ferrer)—the last survivor of the Green Martian race—to Earth. The shock of J'onn's sudden appearance causes Erdel a heart attack. Unable to return to Mars, J'onn disguises himself as Erdel and takes his wallet and identification.
