Chicago air traffic controller Jack Harris (Kiefer Sutherland) was cleared of liability for an ill-fated flight under his authority, such that resulted in the loss of all 174 souls aboard. He subsequently left the job and went on to design air control software, until five years later when T.C. Bryant (Bruce McGill), his ex-colleague who had since transferred to Phoenix, pleads for help on New Year's Eve due to a critical staff shortage and with torrential weather predicted. His return to the control room is met with warmth and disdain, particularly when he experiences flashbacks of the historic incident. The atmosphere rapidly becomes much more serious as the storm approaches and with the control tower suffering power cuts, the team is forced into manually directing busy air traffic through severe turbulence.

Prêts à quitter l’île sur un radeau de fortune, ils sont attaqués et capturés par les cruels adorateurs du dieu Crocodile dirigés par un prêtre dément nommé Kuasa. Tous les blancs sont devenus ses ennemis mortels depuis qu’une Anglaise a rejeté une fois son amour, il s’est vengé d'elle en kidnappant sa fille Toura qu’il a installée dans l’île. Voyant que Toura veut partir, Kuasa veut la sacrifier avec ses nouveaux amis au dieu crocodile quand le volcan se met en éruption et détruit Kuasa et ses hommes. Bob, Jimmy et Toura rencontrent sur la plage des sauveteurs dans lesquels se trouve Eleanor la fiancée de Bob. Bob épris de Toura doit maintenant choisir entre elle et sa fiancée.

The film begins in 1943 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, with newly commissioned Lt. Michael Grayson (Johnson) reporting for duty with the 442nd, then in training. He discovers that he has been sent to a unit composed of Nisei; he had expected to return to the U.S. 36th Infantry Division, a Texas National Guard unit with which he had served as an enlisted man. Having joined the war to fight against the Japanese, he is disturbed to find he is expected to fight alongside people whom he sees as Japanese, rather than Americans. From the outset, Grayson runs his platoon rather harshly, including an almost martinet-like insistence upon the strict observance of regulations.

The Indonesian tells Boll that native divers salvaged a fortune in diamonds from the sunken ship Pieterzoon, contrary to legend which says the diamonds were lost. The Indonesian directs Boll to a Chinese junk captain who has cargo that will lead Boll to the diamonds.

Since the Second World War, blocks of flats emerged as places for affordable living, but fell into a breeding ground for crime and violence, leaving re-developers to demolish most of them except Tower Block 31, where only the top floor residents refuse to leave.
