The story centers around Utena, a new student at Othori Academy who has a penchant for dressing like a boy. She is shown around by the happy-go-lucky fellow student Wakaba, who declares Utena to be her prince. As Utena watches over a fencing match between Juri and Miki, she notices her former boyfriend Touga, who is also watching over the match. She follows him to a yard where roses are grown, and after a brief conversation, reveals her motivation for dressing like a boy. Utena takes notices of Touga wearing a ring and then presumes it's a wedding ring, but Touga corrects her and states that the ring made him seek out the academy. After Touga leaves Utena with a white rose, the rose opens to reveal a ring with the same rose crest as on Touga's. Utena notices roses falling from above and discovers a huge rose garden above. In the garden she meets Anthy, who introduces herself as the Rose Bride. Shortly after, Anthy's current fiancé Kyoichi Saionji makes an appearance. After seeing Utena's ring, he challenges her to a duel. Anthy just tries to interrupt, but she is slapped by Saoinji. Enraged, Utena immediately accepts the duel and fights with a wooden broom. Utena tries her best to fight with a broom, but she is outmatched by Saoinji who is using a real sword. Things start to look dire for Utena, but Anthy throws herself at Utena and kisses her, which causes Utena to drag the Sword of Dios out of Anthy's chest and use it to defeat Saionji.

In the kingdom of Malarpuri, the queen (P. Kannamba) delivers a male child. Her brother Naganathan (M. N. Nambiar) replaces it with a dead child with help from a maidservant, and informs king Varaguna Pandiyan (Sadasiva Rao) that the newborn is dead. To Naganathan's surprise, the queen gives birth to another boy soon after delivering the first. Minister Gunaseelar arrives by then and the king is informed of the birth of two children, one dead and one alive. Everyone is happy that at least one is alive. Naganathan decides to kill the first infant and hands it over to his servant Somappa (Stunt Somu). However, Somappa and his wife raise the prince in a forest.

The story of the film revolves around a palace known as ‘Gandharva Mahal’ which belongs to Rayudu (Prabhu), the present head of a royal family that has lost its former splendor. Rayudu lives with his wife (Meena Kumari) and two daughters Visalakshi (Madhumitha) and Jagadha (Deeksha Seth) in a small house beside the Mahal. Rayudu rents out the palace to make ends meet. In the late 2020s the world is in turmoil, with the United States fractured as a result of prolonged conflict and a pandemic of the "St. Mary's Virus" ravaging Europe. The United Kingdom is ruled as a fascist police state by the Norsefire Party. Political opponents, immigrants, Muslims, homosexuals and other "undesirables" are imprisoned in concentration camps. On November 4, a Guy Fawkes-masked vigilante identifing himself as "V" (Hugo Weaving) rescues Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), an employee of the state-run British Television Network (BTN), from members of the "Fingermen" secret police while she is out past curfew. From a rooftop, they watch his demolition of the Old Bailey criminal court building, accompanied by fireworks and the 1812 Overture. Inspector Finch (Stephen Rea), Scotland Yard's Chief of Police, is tasked with investigating V's activities while BTN declares the incident an "emergency demolition". V interrupts the broadcast to claim responsibility and urges the people of Britain to rise up against their government. He asks them to meet him exactly one year later, on November 5, Guy Fawkes Night, outside the Houses of Parliament, which he promises to destroy. During the broadcast, the police attempt to capture V. Evey helps him escape but is knocked unconscious.

Unemployed 28-year-old cartoonist Gordon "Gord" Brody leaves his parents' home in Portland, Oregon to pursue his lifelong ambition of obtaining a contract for an animated television series. Gord shows his drawings to Dave Davidson, the CEO of a major animation studio; Davidson tells him that the artwork is not bad, but that the concepts depicted, including a vigilante "X-Ray Cat", are nonsensical. Disheartened, Gord quits his job and returns to his parents.

Raghavan Master (Sreeraman), a scion of a high Adiga Brahmin family and an ardent communist, is now in crisis as his Tharavadu is devoid of the fame and fortune it once had. Balachandran Adiga is his only son, who has the burden of looking after his family and his four nubile daughters. He is aware of the difficulties involved in bringing the family back from the brink of nothingness and in marrying off his sisters. Balachandran's eldest sister Shobha does some tailoring and manages a low earning with which the family is kept out of hunger. Balachandran is engaged to Sumithra, his cousin and childhood pal, but in the turn of events, one Thripran Namboodhiri (Salim kumar) comes with an offer to marry his niece to Balachandran, thereby agreeing to make him a secretariat staff and thereby save their sinking family. Sumithra forces Balchandran to risk their dreams for the sake of his family. He is forced to forget his murappennu and childhood playmate Sumitra(Kavya Madhavan) and is compelled to marry Surabhi(Samvrutha Sunil), a girl from a rich family, to tackle the serious economic adversities that his family faces. Notwithstanding the family chaos, Balachandran's younger sister Shubha walks out with Adivasi leader Sreedharan on the day of Balachandran’s marriage, causing irreparable damage to the family reputation, following which his mother dies. Sumithra finally marries a cruel and corrupt police officer who is always doubtful on the character of his wife.
