Greg (Deon Richmond) is nearing the end of his high school days as graduation slowly approaches. He is also anxiously awaiting prom and has the hopes of going with Cinny (Maia Campbell), the school's local beauty. Along with these wants, Greg is also an avid daydreamer and daydreams (trippin') over everything. Most of his "trips" are reversals of real world events, such as visualizing himself as a military commando when confronted by bullies, or as a super genius when in fact he struggles academically. Since he is about to graduate his mother and a teacher encourage him to apply for college. He finally realizes asking for help with the college applications is a great way for him to get in good with Cinny. So they slowly start a friendship but Greg wants it to blossom into a romance so he begins to lie about things. Things go smoothly and are believable until they fall apart one day. Afterward, Greg realizes he needs to stop daydreaming ("trippin'") and focus.
Ford Coleman (Chris Fogleman) is a young actor trying to start his career in Los Angeles. His friend Tripp (William Gregory Lee) has already given up making it in the music business, and now takes drugs and lives off of Ford. When Ford's money runs out, Tripp comes up with the idea of selling drugs to supermodels to make money, and Ford goes along so they won't be evicted, and he can keep taking acting classes from James Comey (Ed Begley, Jr.) with the girl of his dreams, Gwen (Amber Benson)

Trixie Zurbo is an eccentric woman who longs to quit her job as a security guard in a department store and become a private detective. She finally gets her wish when she takes a job in security at a casino. She accidentally becomes involved in a murderous plot and Trixie takes her first case; however, her unschooled command of the English language and comedy intervenes and the mess begins.
The film is a fictional story of the creation of the Trocadero night club with the two foster children of Tony Rocadero erecting the club in their late father's memory. The film is an excuse to feature a variety of performers doing their act in the club, including an animated character from Dave Fleischer.
Hanna and Simon are in a long-term relationship which, though loving, has grown sexually unexciting. Soon after Simon's mother dies from advanced pancreatic cancer, he discovers that he has testicular cancer and must undergo surgery and chemotherapy. Simon, who had assumed that either he or Hanna was infertile, is assured that he should still be able to have children after his surgery. During his recovery, Simon and Hanna decide to finally wed. Shortly beforehand, Simon encounters Adam at the pool and begins an affair with him as well.

In 1916, the notorious bandit El Guapo (Alfonso Arau) and his gang of thugs are collecting protection money from the small Mexican village of Santo Poco. Carmen (Patrice Martinez), daughter of the village leader, searches for someone who can come to the rescue of her townspeople. While visiting a small village church, she watches a silent film featuring "The Three Amigos" and, believing them to be real heroes, sends a telegram to Hollywood asking them to come and stop El Guapo. However, the telegraph operator edits her message since she has very little money to pay for it.
