Nicolas sort de prison après 18 ans de détention. Dans sa jeunesse, il a fait partie d'un groupuscule révolutionnaire. Pour changer le monde, il pensait qu'il fallait passer par la violence. Lors de l'une de leurs actions, Nicolas a servi de chauffeur et un policier est mort accidentellement. À sa sortie de prison, il souhaite sincèrement se réinsérer : trouver un travail, être autonome et, pourquoi pas, s'engager dans une vie de couple avec Nadia, une femme imprévisible dont il tombe éperdument amoureux. Hébergé au début dans un squat, Nicolas est confronté à la jeunesse contestataire actuelle ainsi qu'à ses anciens amis. Il est aussi plongé dans la société d'aujourd'hui, avec ses injustices et ses inégalités.

Jules, adolescent de quinze ans, vit avec ses grands-parents dans une maison en Touraine. Il a pour complice et unique ami son grand-père, fantaisiste et maniaque. Les parents de Jules vivent à Paris. Personnages énigmatiques, très occupés et aisés, qu'il n'a guère l'occasion de voir et qui n'ont que peu de temps à consacrer à leur enfant. Un jour, la maison doit être vendue. Les grands-parents n'ont pas les moyens de l'acheter et tous les trois, alors obligés de déménager, s'installent dans une nouvelle campagne. Au début, Jules et son grand-père se montrent hostiles à ce lieu, mais très vite l'un et l'autre vont s'y plaire. C'est pour Jules la découverte, celle des autres de son âge.

The film starts off by showing Chithambaram (Prakash Raj), and how he's an important man in the village. He is an adamant character who always sticks on to his decisions. When the temple festival starts, Kausalya (Priyanka) goes to her grandfather's house to celebrate. There she meets Suresh (Vikram) and they fall in love. Meanwhile, Chithambaram gets into many conflicts with Suresh, not even knowing who the other was. All the things that Suresh did were unintentional but Chithambaram doesn't realize this. Therefore, Chithambaram ends up with a very negative opinion of Suresh. When the day comes that everyone in Kausalya's grandfather's's home find out that Suresh and Kausalya are in love, they try to get Chithambaram (Kausalya's father) to agree to the wedding. He, however stubbornly sticks to his decision that the marriage should not take place.

He looked for his mother and got reunited with her who taught him to forgive his father. His father eventually dies.

In Manhattan, former gangster turned legitimate businessman Martin Martin (Pat O'Brien) has become the target of a politically ambitious district attorney, who has offered immunity for Martin's former partner in crime Dane Cory in exchange for his testimony. After being informed about the deal and narrowly escaping arrest, Martin pays a visit to Cory to persuade him not to testify. The meeting ends up with a shootout, with Martin killing one of Cory's henchmen and being hit himself before fleeing. With his picture on newspaper front pages and a reward on his head, Martin decides to hide in an abandoned house. While recovering to prepare a final assault on Cory, he adopts an injured dog that strays into his hideout and names him Johnny One-Eye.
