Mélange d'images d'archives et de scènes de fiction, "Tahia Ya Didou" est un hommage à la ville d'Alger, qui est à l'origine du projet. Au hasard des promenades et des rencontres, Simon et sa femme, un couple de touristes français, découvrent Alger. Simon reconnaît dans un bistrot un Algérien qu'il a autrefois torturé. L'homme le fixe. Pris de panique, Simon s'enfuit. "Tahia Ya Didou" est l'unique film du comédien Mohamed Zinet. Né d'une commande de la ville d'Alger, qui attendait qu'il soit un documentaire touristique, il ne fut pas du goût des autorités et il n'y eut aucune sortie en salles. Devenu malgré tout un film culte, "Tahia Ya Didou" est bien plus qu'un documentaire promotionnel. Hommage à la ville d'Alger, à ses habitants, il est doté d'un ton inclassable, cohabitation de comique burlesque et de tragiques réminiscences du passé douloureux du pays. La comédie restaurée et numérisée en 2016, figure parmi les plus grands succès du cinéma algérien.

In 1962, René Vautier, together with some Algerian friends, organized an audiovisual formation center to encourage a "dialogue in images" between the two factions. A film was edited from that experience, but the French police partially destroyed it. The images that were saved represent an unprecedented historical document: They tell of the Algerian War and the history of the ALN (National Liberation Army), as well as showing life after the war and, particularly, the reconstruction of the cities and the countryside after the war of Independence.
