The film narrates the story of Mrs Badmus (Abiola Segun Williams) who owns a multimillion business empire (Da Costa Holdings), but her son Olumide (Desmond Elliot) is very wayward and is not interested in running the business. Mrs Badmus eventually reveals to her son that she is dying of cancer and she has few months left to live. She gives a condition that if he wants her to be happy, he needs to get married to Hope (Uche Jombo), the financial director of the company and a very dedicated employee. Mrs Badmus also feels Hope is the perfect wife that can keep her son's wasteful spending in check when she is no more. Olumide orchestrates a plan with her girlfriend, Sabina (Nadia Buari) and Olumide starts to fake his love for Hope, waiting for the day his mother will die. However, Mrs Badmus' Will states that Olumide has to be married to Hope to have her properties; If anything otherwise happens, Hope should have the properties. Olumide has no other choice than to marry Hope, but however frustrates her with everything after wedlock, while still going out with Sabina. Hope, who continues to play a good and faithful wife despite her husband's attitude, finds out that she is also suffering from Leukaemia. Olumide eventually falls deeply in love with Hope, but it is too late because she now has few months left to live.
The film is a hybrid between narrative structure and documentary style set to interweave throughout the film's plot. Based on the director's own experiences, the film follow the life of one woman and her struggle with breast cancer. The personal experiences of other celebrities who have themselves dealt with breast cancer, are interspersed throughout the film, as told by the celebrities themselves.

The story revolves around Johnny (Murali) and Annie (Madhavi), a married couple who had both grown up together in an orphanage, fallen in love and had got married. The couple have four children; the eldest being a teenage girl named Meenu, twin boys Rony and Tony, and the youngest Monu, a toddler. Rony and Tony are about 8 years old and are very close to each other. Rony is physically handicapped. Johnny is a jeep driver by profession and Annie a violin teacher. Though the family struggles to live and make ends meet, they lead a happy life together, except for the moments when Johnny, a recurrent alcoholic spends most of his daily earnings at the local toddy shop. During an altercation between Johnny and the local milk delivery man Keshavan (N F Varghese), the latter is humiliated in front of his family. Keshavan therefore decides to take revenge on Johnny.
The film is set in Ghent, in the Flemish Region of Belgium, and explores the lives of Didier and Elise over seven years as they fall in love through their passion for bluegrass music. They have a daughter, Maybelle, who develops cancer after her sixth birthday, and succumbs to it within a year. The outcome of Maybelle's illness has a devastating effect on their relationship and their lives.
American Splendor retrace la véritable histoire du scénariste de comics Harvey Pekar. Au début du film, celui-ci mène une existence plutôt morose entre son travail de documentaliste, quelques conversations sur tout et rien avec ses collègues et quelques connaissances, et sa passion pour le jazz, qu'il assouvit en recherchant des pièces rares dans les garage sales (équivalent américain des vide-greniers) ou les magasins d'occasion. C'est ainsi qu'il fait la connaissance du célèbre dessinateur de bande dessinée Robert Crumb, alors inconnu, qui est lui aussi collectionneur. Plusieurs années plus tard, alors que Crumb est devenu célèbre, Harvey lui soumet les story-boards d'un projet de bande dessinée basée sur sa vie, lui proposant d'en assurer le dessin. Crumb accepte, et contre toute attente, cette série intitulée American Splendor relatant une vie simple, banale, obtient un grand succès. Harvey Pekar acquiert ainsi une certaine célébrité aux États-Unis, dont les conséquences sur sa vie quotidienne sont présentées dans le film. En particulier, American Splendor lui permet de rencontrer sa future femme Joyce Brabner, qui écrit elle aussi des comics, et avec qui il va réaliser d'autres histoires autobiographiques, également intégrées en partie dans le film (notamment Our Cancer Year).

Bhaskar is a cancer specialist and after the congratulatory speeches, he reveals that the book is not a work of fiction but taken from his own diary and pertains to his experiences with a real person named Anand.

Uxbal lives in a shabby apartment in Barcelona with his two young children, Ana and Mateo. He is separated from their mother Marambra, a woman suffering from alcoholism and bipolar disorder. Having grown up an orphan, Uxbal has no family other than his brother Tito, who works in the construction business. Uxbal earns a living by procuring work for illegal immigrants and managing a group of Chinese women producing forged designer goods along with the African street vendors who are selling them. He is able to talk to the dead and is sometimes paid to pass on messages from the recently deceased at wakes and funerals. When he is diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer leaving him with only a few months to live, his world progressively falls apart.
