Three years ago, a team of astronaut miners completed a daring space expedition. They embarked on their journey home, but by the time the craft returned to Earth, their commander had gone mad—taking a terrible secret with him to a heavily guarded state asylum for the insane. Kent Horvath (Michael Shanks) is a scientist, trying to invent a new pesticide, specifically for yellow jacket wasps. He tests it out on eight yellow jackets, to see how well it works. It kills six, out of the eight wasps, and the two who survived now have extremely high pheromone levels, resulting in increased aggression. That night, the janitor (John Baktins) accidentally releases them, and they both attack, and kill him. The next morning, they find his body, along with one of the wasps, with the other one nowhere to be found.

Alors que les insectes font leur récoltes d'hiver, la colonie de fourmis noires des bois se rend dans une épicerie pour y chaparder une boîte de sucre. Mais elles se font attaquer par les fourmis rouges. Dépassée par la situation, l'une d'elles décide de faire appel à son ami la coccinelle pour leur venir en aide. Dans la bataille, le fils de la coccinelle, qui l'a suivi, tombe accidentellement dans un carton à destination de la Guadeloupe. Le père parvient à suivre le paquet et à prendre le même avion. Les deux coccinelles vont se retrouver confrontées à tous les dangers de cet environnement tropical qu'elles ne connaissent pas. Dans le même temps, la fourmi noire va tout mettre en oeuvre pour ramener son amie à la maison.
