Abbas Tyrewala is an Hindi film storywriter, screenwriter, dialogue writer and director. After making his mark as a screenwriter and dialogue writer in early 2000s, with award winning films like Maqbool (2003), Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003), he made his debut as a director with a breezy romantic comedy, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008).
Abbas hails from a modest background. Born to a poor Muslim family. Abbas's father owned a tyre repair shop, his mother, a housewife, was keen to get Tyrewala a good education in order to help him achieve.

Biography
Born and brought up in Mumbai, Abbas joined St. Xavier's College, Mumbai for graduation, where he started working on plays and soon started writing advertising jingles, but he left without securing a degree to join Ogilvy & Mather PR agency, where he worked for a year; he then joined television production company Cinevista as creative consultant, which he left in 2000, to become a full-time writer. He entered the film industry as a lyricist, writing for film like, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar (2000), and Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001), till he got his break with Santosh Sivan's Asoka (2001) as a dialogue writer. He is married to Pakhi who had her debut in his film Jhoota Hi Sahi opposite John Abraham.Abbas hails from a modest background. Born to a poor Muslim family. The film is based on William Shakespeare's Macbeth and with Mumbai underworld as its backdrop. Maqbool (Irrfan Khan) is the right-hand man of Jahangir Khan (alias Abba Ji) (Pankaj Kapoor), a powerful underworld don. Maqbool is grateful and feels a close connection and personal indebtedness to Abba Ji. The movie gains pace with two corrupt police-men (played by Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah) predicting that Maqbool would soon take over the reins of the Mumbai Underworld from Abba Ji. These two thus play a role akin to the three witches in the original play.

The film opens in UK where Colonel Viren Nanda (Jimmy Shergill) goes to meet a wanted terrorist Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa) in his holding cell. As Viren informs Zaffar that he will be extradited back to India for his crimes, Zafar's men enter his holding cell, led by Hamid Gul (Jaaved Jaffrey), murdering all guards around them, with Zaffar then murdering Viren by shooting him and then burning him. As Zaffar escapes in a helicopter waiting on the roof, he puts a $5 million reward for someone to steal the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Tower of London, but with one condition – the thief must be Indian, to hold up a new extradition treaty between India and UK. Soon after, a man named Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan) steals it, and when Zaffar's men are informed of the theft, they travel to Rajveer for the deal. Although they initially travel with the $5 million reward, Rajveer informs them that he now wants $20 million for the deal. Following the disdain of the comment made by Rajveer, a fight breaks out between Rajveer and Zaffar's men after which Rajveer flies away. After Rajveer escapes, a CCTV footage of him is captured, showing that he is in Shimla. Following Rajveer's escape, he sees Harleen (Katrina Kaif) sitting in a restaurant, who is there waiting for her internet date, "Vickie", to show up. Rajveer enters the restaurant posing as "Vickie" and woos her over. He convinces Harleen to use the bathroom and whilst she is in there, Rajveer fights the remaining men and leaves the restaurant, much to the dismay of Harleen. As she drives home, Harleen accidentally runs over Rajveer, who asks her to stitch up a gunshot wound sustained during the fight. Rajveer then gives Harleen drugged water, with her complying with what he says about the government officials, informing her about where to find guns underneath car seats and what they will say about him.

The movie is about the relationship between India and Pakistan. The governments of India and Pakistan have launched, "Project Milaap", where both the governments will release the POWs from the previous wars. Raghavan (Sunil Shetty), a deranged ex-army man-turned-militant does not want the peaceful operation to turn to reality and makes an attempt on Gen. Amarjeet Bakshi (Kabir Bedi)'s life. While trying to rescue Gen. Bakshi , Brigadier Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah) falls prey to a stray bullet. While on deathbed he confesses to his son Major Ram Prasad Sharma (Shahrukh Khan) that his wife and son had left him many years ago due to his infidelity. He tells Ram his last wish: his family be reunited under one roof, and dies. Meanwhile, Gen. Bakshi tells Ram that his teenage daughter Sanjana's life is in danger, and asks him to go undercover to Darjeeling and pose as a student in Sanjana's class in front of her own eyes. As the fate would have it, Ram learns that his younger brother Laxman "Lucky" (Zayed Khan) is studying at the same college. So Maj. Ram starts off on his dual mission: personal and national. While at the college he falls in love the new chemistry teacher but, keeps making a fool of himself when singing. He meets Sanju (Amrita Rao), who has a very hard time impressing Lucky since she has a crush on him. Since one of the aims of the mission is to provide protection to Sanju, he tries getting close to her but she has only one thing on her mind, impressing Lucky. Sanju is constantly being irritated by Ram because of his attempts at friendship and she eventually complains to Lucky about him. Since he is the coolest guy on campus and Ram is the uncle type they don't get along at all. Lucky, being the mischievous guy he is, ends up in a competition of getting to the roof of the school and in a sudden turn of events ends up hanging from the roof. Ram saves him. This causes all barriers to collapse between them and they become best of friends. Automatically, Sanju also gets close to Ram. Soon thereafter, Ms. Sharma (Kirron Kher), Lucky's mother, advertises for a paying guest in their house in order to make ends meet and thus Maj. Ram ends up in their house. Sanju soon starts wearing new kinds of clothes after visiting Ms. Chandini (Sushmita Sen) the chemistry teacher, along with Ram.Soon, when Ram expresses his feelings to Ms. Chandini, she tells him she feels the same way but they can't be together because she was older than him. In addition, Lucky falls in love with Sanju because of her new look. Lucky and, Ms.Sharma find out that Ram is actually Shekar's son and kicks him out of their house when he is about explain. Ram discovers Raghavan has kidnapped Sanjana.Raghavan and Ram have a deadly fight. But, surprisingly Ram wins the fight even though he is wounded by a bullet shot inflicted by Raghavan. Later it shows everybody at college having a party. There it is revealed that it was Ram's graduation party. It shows Lucky and Sanju expressing their feelings to each other.
